I posted a while back how using Wordpress themes could hurt your SEO efforts. I was working with a client in a business with very limited competition in regards to web presence. The site I built for them was far superior than any of the competition, but it wasn't ranking organically. I couldn't figure out why (which led me to research Wordpress and SEO).

I finally said fuck it, and rebuilt the entire site using Bootstrap framework. Now they're ranked #1 in all the SERPS! Eight months using Wordpress, organic rankings sucked dick. One month with no Wordpress and now it's ranked #1 for multiple keywords.

So FUCK WORDPRESS!

Also watch out for premium bootstrap themes, sometimes they are filled with heavy JS, which surely won't help with your rankings either

I built the site from scratch and integrated bootstrap elements as needed. I'm staying far away from themes or templates of any type from here on out.

I'll never use Wordpress again.

OP, if you take your code and make a WP theme out of it, so that WP outputs exactly the same html code as your non-WP version, do you think it will hurt your rankings? i think not as engines will see exactly the same markup

with this we can conclude that it's not massively WP's fault, but a theme's markup and optimization. or you don't agree?

I never was a big fan of WP and I never could rank any WP site no matter how many changes I made to improve SEO on template ! So totally agreed with you !

A lot of people will use a WP theme with SEO stuff already in there, then put in another SEO plugin on top of that and fuck everything up. Did you do that?

I don't think it's so much as the markup, but the fact that Wordpress code tends to be so bloated. If you're using it for what it was originally intended for; Blogging software, then I think you'll be fine. But people were using it as a shortcut (I'm guilty of it), and turning off most of the "blog" functions like comments, etc. Take that and then stack a bloated theme on top of it, and it's a SEO disaster. Wordpress in itself isn't the devil, but every plugin and theme installed just makes it more and more evil.

It's proven that there are SEO friendly themes for Wordpress. But it's my opinion that Google, and other search engines got wise to the game, and penalizing people who use WP for anything other than what it was intended. I remember back in the day building a WP site and it ranking high in the SERPS fast. Not anymore. Even the most bare bones theme is somewhat bloated now.

It's easier for me to build a site from scratch than going through lines and lines of code to see what I need, and what I can delete. And every coder has their own bad habits, which makes it even more annoying.

I'm not at the office right now, I'll post them when I get back. They were responsive themes I purchased from Themeforest.

Yes, you're correct. Bootstrap uses more CSS/HTML5/Javascript, whereas Wordpress uses a lot of PHP and also requires a database to function. No database is required with Bootstrap.

No kidding! I used to BANK on Wordpress landing pages. Build it, ping the shit out of it, and get ranked on the first page of Google within a week. I miss those days, too.

Still a little confused. Are you saying you can build a whole site with bootstrap alone? How does the content work with it? How do you make posts?

Oh yead, did that a few times, however the "themes/sites" made myself does look shitty compared to some free bootstrap themes out there.. but again, if the site is only for SEO then who cares.
