LOL: Mizzou may pay price for campus protests as enrollment plunges

Shocking surprise. Parents don't want their kids to live in the zoo.
Great time for affirmative action and for those who have 1.5 GPA

Mizzou may pay price for campus protests as enrollment plunges | Fox News

Safe spaces may become empty spaces at the University of Missouri, where officials acknowledged an expected sharp decline in enrollment next fall is due at least in part to protests that rocked the campus last fall.
The school is braced for a 25 percent drop in new students this coming fall, forcing the institution to enact painful budget cuts, as well as hiring and salary freezes.

“College enrollment is declining overall – perhaps because high school graduates are realizing trivial courses that lecture on “white privilege” and “queer liberation” – just to name two – don’t help one much with employment and real-world problems,”

“Do most reasonable people want classmates who parade through the library finger-waving about the supposed evils of whiteness – "

Yeah, that's gotta be it. Couldn't possibly be the insane cost of tuition and the amount of debt the average student will be in after college. Gotta be some political talking point.

It has nothing to do with the cost of tuition. Please tell me how a slight increase in tuition from 2015 to 2016 could cause a drop enrollment 25%? Did they go from $250 per credit hour to $2500 or something?

They got a heaping dose of egg on their face, and showed absolute loss of control over their institution when the bowed to the demands of their students. I wouldn't want my kid going there. Hell, I'd pay higher tuition at another institution just to avoid the cesspool that is Mizzou.

Well... . "other schools in Missouri, including Missouri State, are seeing an increase in enrollment, which would indicate local students are considering options other than Mizzou."

So.... Maybe...

?We do know that the events of last fall have had an effect on our application numbers; however, it?s difficult to provide a specific number as we do not have any hard data," University of Missouri spokesman Christian Basi said in a statement

Did you guys not read what I quoted? It had nothing to do with what happened at Mizzou.

The Mizzou thing is big news around here (I'm a MO resident). Our local university, Missouri State, and Arkansas (hour away) are reaping those benefits. Lots of my Mizzou alum friends post about it almost daily.

Yeah, i read what you said. You brought up an issue that's been an issue for 5 decades and imply that it must be the reason that in just months, new enrollments in a college would plummet 25%. Hence my quote from the college directly and their acknowledgement that they are bracing for a major hit in enrollments due specifically to those prior events.

But did you read what I quoted? What I quoted was in reference to college enrollments overall; not just at Mizzou. It's important to understand what I was replying to and that it has zero to do with Mizzou's situation.

I'm not disputing Mizzou's enrollment decline or the reasoning behind it. It's also affected recruiting on the sports side. All in all, it'll probably take the university a while to recover from it.

You are talking about brief and minor, overall statistical declines where the enrollment trend is still firmly heading upward over time, not a single massive decline for a single school which is what the article/discussion is about. They are two unrelated issues.

The Condition of Education - Participation in Education - Postsecondary Enrollment - Undergraduate Enrollment - Indicator May (2015)

1-2% national declines in overall enrollment has nothing at all to do with an anticipated 25% decline in enrollment at a single school

yea, clearly the "insane" tuition costs are effecting the enrollment numbers last couple of decades in negative way...
