This post most likely has a higher word count than it?s content deserves but just wanted to share before I forget the details?

As I was leaving my hotel after the show, a woman stopped me to ask me what hospital my wristband was from. I joked that my friend Romeo and I had just escaped from a mental institution by climbing out a 2nd story bathroom window ? she took it as being serious, believed me and went on to ramble for quite a few minutes about Mormonism, bipolar disorder, manic depression, gun control, autism, home defense and mass murder while I smiled and nodded politely, making a mental note to myself to remove the wristband and also to consider not engaging random crazy people in conversations.

But I forgot to remove the wristband?

I live in Dallas and chose to drive to the show since I needed some time on the road to clear my head and the desert and the highway are 2 things I find highly conducive to clear thought and sorting stuff in my mind. It is a pretty long haul though, even with 2 drivers trading off.

Somewhere maybe halfway between El Paso and Odessa, where there are tons of stars on a clear night because there?s no city lights to compete with; we stopped for gas at about 3 AM. The pimple-faced teenager at the cash register asked me about the wristband again and I kicked myself for still wearing it. Then I told him I had just come from an adult industry gathering and that I ran adult websites. He nodded enthusiastically and said ?yeah, I hear ya man, so do I. ? but I can?t never make me no money cause like, these bitches around here want to get paid too much yaknowwhatimsayin??

I stopped myself from asking him what fucking girls live out here among the sage brush and mule deer and just kind of agreed with him and left.

It was Romeo?s turn to drive and as he buckled in he realized he must have left his glasses in the washroom, so he went back inside to retrieve them. The cashier was standing behind the counter, wearing Romeo?s glasses and acting like nothing odd was going on. Romeo says ?um, I think you might have my glasses? guy says ?yeah I know and you my friend are blind as a fucking bat? hands him the glasses, we drive off baffled, chuckling, and wondering what the fuck just happened.

I did finally remove the wristband.

Back in 1987 I was in the first Easyriders Motorcycle Rodeo (took 3rd in my event). They gave us wristbands on Saturday for Sunday's event. A bunch of us rode from the fairgrounds into a bar in Ventura and had the same thing happen; with essentially the same response to the chick except I said we were on a weekend release.

awesome story

not much of a curse, mostly some post-show nuisances that people tend to find increasingly annoying.

Phoenix is a strange place though. Me and my then-colleague were pondering the idea to open an eatery / breakfast place that opens at 7AM on Sunday. we could make BANK because it was fuckin impossible to find any food at that specific time and there were people on the streets already.

not really related but a waitress at the mission palms hotel told me i have a maltese accent. i think i have never even heard maltese language spoken.. beats me.
