All GFY post activity over all threads and categories over the years

Interesting to look over the month by month postings

From the trend you can see why Eric made decisions where he swore he'd never ever let Paul Markham back on... well looks like trends change minds lol.

I can't imagine how much noise there was circa 04-05, noticed how some talked about it, back when sig whoring was a thing and board whoring was something that took some effort.

This will be one of my last queries, maybe someone else would like to play around with it? hmm.

I'll share how I gathered, parsed the data, than queried it for relevance in a new thread, so you know exactly what I did.

I knew it was your fault. I started in 2004 with my first name and the board went so fucking fast it was nuts. You know this but the new people, just hard to explain

Next I'll make a thread on how I did all of this.

The data is pretty good for searching and finding fake nicks actually. Anything Harmon or others did on here I could do really fast. Beyond that though I honestly can't think of anything useful to do with old forum data from here, can anyone? Other than a tear jerker on how things use to be.

I thought about doing some kind of app that would notify people when someone quoted you in either a browser plugin or some kind of desktop app. I played around with githubs Electron and got some neat apps working (mostly prebuilt already).
There's enough libraries and technologies to do this without going very low level where one person can probably code it with reasonable amounts of effort.
But... I can't really see any ROI other than board cred or something. Plus I'm just a 3rd party doing all of this without permission haha.

I wonder how closely this would map to affiliate earnings? I would almost venture to say this graph vs Affiliate Earnings Graph would be very similar.

Agreed. I know the trolls help push views help push traffic but they also push the quality away.

The followup question.... Is there anywhere where these real webmasters are hanging out? Xbiz took the modern approach to a social network but I don't feel that's worked. It's not perfectly executed but I think it's executed well enough that it should have worked.

In the "how I did this" thread I'll make I'll post a download linked to the database along with compressed archives of the text files so if anyone wants to play with it they can.

If the mods don't like it they can delete the links or ban me ): lol

Will76 was a power affiliate and I remember him saying years ago that he peaked in 2006, FTVGirls (not affiliate but just from the podcast I heard) peaked in 2008. I'm sure there is slack of 1-2 years but follows the trend.

Like any industry, seems like dating, everything gets swallowed up into conglomerates and gets bought up.

My peak and three others that were huge in my opinion all had our best year in 2007. We all started from 1999 to 2001.
2006, 2007 and 2008 were not that far apart for me.
2012 was the biggest drop from one year to the next.

On non-porn webmaster forums.

The situation for many is the days of throwing people at a product and hoping they will buy is over. Because the surfer demands more. If a person wants to buy a camera where would they look? On a site that did no more than list all the cameras and basic info or on one that offered real advice and can prove it's trusted?

Dating is going the same way, cams will go more towards free, with no need to even bother going via an affiliate. Tubes will stay and drop in income unless the profit from buying ad space disappears. Adsense will stay, but why would a company give affiliates the chance to earn from it when it's easier and more profitable to place an ad themselves.

It will happen slowly as I predicted ten years ago when I said free porn would devastate the industry.

The only affiliates who will be left are those who can provide real entertainment or knowledge that can be supported by ad sales. Newspapers and the top Youtubers are great examples.

I don't know. It's really odd for me because I know a lot of guys still in the industry and still making money but they don't post anywhere. I get the whole I'm busy and I have shit to do. But having a community has merits as well. I don't know why that's dropped away.

It's a small industry. Most people know each other. Majority probably are on FB or Linkedin. Maybe the need for a community has gone away. It's a shame. I find just comparing GFY now to 6 months ago is a huge difference (in the wrong way).

It's a small industry. Most people know each other. Majority probably are on FB or Linkedin. Maybe the need for a community has gone away. It's a shame. I find just comparing GFY now to 6 months ago is a huge difference (in the wrong way).
because political bullshit and the accompanying bullies/trolls took over and took the fun away

Back in the day, we all knew each other. From the lowest producer to the multi-millionaires on their way to billionaire status. We didn't need forums to talk to each other.

There is a one private forum where trolls are not welcome and members are manually approved. I can not post the link here, because it is against the rules.
