Ping Times...

I should now this but...

I am on a funny network that goes through extenders and a couple of routers - When I ping does the count start when it leaves my computer or when it hits the internet? - If that makes any sense at all.....

It would explain some strange results I am getting on my servers...

Isn't the ping from computer, the processing on the page, through the router, through several networks to the test server & back again. The result once it lands back.

processing on a page ? seriously ?

Ping time is measured as the time it takes for an icmp echo request to leave your network interface and the reply to return back again from the target host.

So to simplify, it's measured from the network port of the computer.

If you want to measure latency across a network you can use traceroute

https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Commun..._Networks/Ping

So it is counting how long it takes to get through the network I am on, including multiple routers, extenders etc. - That makes sense - Thanks...

You should try the traceroute command, sort of like ping but shows you each step of the way.

the processing of the page, when you click that button to test ping, it bounces from the pc, as I said...

maybe said it in a bit of a tits up way, but give me a medal, I did say the same thing. From the computer and back again, through routers and servers
