Moving to Vegas ?

I am thinking about moving to Las Vegas, wanted everyone's input on the good and the bad that you have seen if you ever lived in Las Vegas.

What are the good parts of LV? I know Henderson is nice.

Thanks guys!

It seems like a good time to buy. Henderson, Summerlin, Green Valley are all decent communities.

It's beautiful out here. I live up in the N.W. part of town in a beautiful home in a gated community.

I've been here around 8 years now. But the kids are grown and now it's just me and Claudia Marie in a 5000 sq. foot home.

I'm very tempted to "downsize" and move into a condo on the strip or downtown to be closer to all the action.
Vegas is such a spread out city that it feels like living in a quiet little town out here, and then 15 minutes up the street it's insane at the strip and downtown.

There are lots of homes/condos for affordable prices and I like that kind of lifestyle.

Any part you recommend Robbie? Henderson is nice, but any particular area you recommend in LV or Henderson?

You're a lucky guy. Because I just happen to live in Vegas. So here are the positives.

It's cheaper than California. There's no state income tax just a federal. So you'll save money there. Move to Henderson it's basically like living in Las Vegas. But nicer area. Except for if you drink a lot. The Henderson Police aren't friendly to drunks. You better be off in the Las Vegas area. The Las Vegas Police Department are a lot lighter on drinking and disorderly conduct. There's some adult companies that still work in Vegas. And about three adult management companies. So if you're shooting content it's a good spot to be. And it's always close to La only about 6 hours if you drive fast. Though it's a really small City only maybe about 2 to 3 million people here. So not a lot of opportunity. But you can always drive out to LA for business meetings if you need to. And pretty fun nightlife. But you should be able to save money much easier in Las Vegas than any of the coastal areas. Well good luck to you

From my house hunting experience back in 2013, there are few if any "historical" houses in Las Vegas. Seems like lots of newer construction houses with insufferable HOA regs/fees. The oldest houses are 1950 and later...nothing pre-war (1930's and earlier). I tend to like pre-war houses, so Vegas didn't work for me. But if you like the newer built homes, it could work.

I loved living in Vegas. The weather is great (even in the summer IMO). Because of the low cost of living, you get a pretty high quality of life for an average amount of money. Lots of great restaurants, lots to do, lots of concerts, lots of 24 hour places, direct flights to pretty much anywhere.

Henderson is the popular area, but not the only one. I liked living in the south west, other people like Summerlin and Red Rock. Spend some time first and check out all the areas, it could come down to what is available on the market in your budget.

If I moved back I'd be tempted to do the Panorama Tower thing though...

I live in the Vegas version of "historical" which is a neighborhood from 1945. It's essentially between downtown and the strip. The old neighborhoods that have great mid-century houses are:
  • John S. Park
  • Scotch Eighties
  • Rancho Palomino
  • Mcneil
  • Glen Heather

To OP. Vegas is such a great place to live. It's affordable and of course there is always something to do. Now we got a hockey team and the Raiders are a favorite to move here. Outside of Vegas is mountains and Lake Mead so there is lots of outdoor things to do.
