Macy's to close 63 more locations -- 3,900 to lose their jobs

The closure of 68 stores and the reorganization of the field structure that supports the remaining stores, reinforcing the strategy of fewer stores with better customer experience. These store closures are part of the approximately 100 closings announced in August 2016.
The significant restructuring of the Macy?s, Inc. operations to focus resources on strategic priorities, improve organizational agility and reduce expense.
The sale of properties consistent with the previously announced real estate strategy.

The actions announced today are estimated to generate annual expense savings of approximately $550 million, beginning in 2017, enabling the company to invest an additional $250 million in growing the digital business, store-related growth strategies, Bluemercury, Macy?s Backstage and China. These savings, combined with savings from initiatives implemented in early 2016, exceed the $500 million goal communicated in fall of 2015, one year earlier than expected.

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Several area K-Mart and Sears stores will be closing their doors by the end of March 2017. Sears Holdings says in a document obtained by FOX 2 that they informed many workers about the closings on Wednesday. There are 78 Kmarts and 26 Sears stores closing across the country.

Like i'v been saying, with the advent of online stores like Amazon the customer base for brick and mortar stores is shrinking every day. The Home Depot is desperate to increase there online presents sighting Amazon as their target model (problem is their website is so slow and and their coding so bad i doubt will ever catch up) ?

My opinion is most of the store have missed the boat and Amazon will clean up while stores like Macys, Home Depot, Lowes etc will eventually disappear. The only stores left will be food stores like Shaws Hannafords Ralphs etc. Associates will then be forced to work minimum wage or less doing menial jobs like picking and packing in huge warehouses for the online giants.

This is not the last of these announcements. I had no problem shopping this year. Even on Christmas Eve at Walmart was an average day. Hell I wasn't even there to shop I was returning an online order.

^^ Truth. I had Same Day Amazon Prime deliver stocking stuffers Christmas Eve within about an hour, for less than I'd pay at Walmart. No joke. And their delivery was until midnight Christmas Eve to my door.

On a side note, the inside story is that Trump & Macy's go way back. Macy's helped build Trump up in the fashion industry a decade ago. Evidently there's been a falling out and Macy's is publicly jabbing Trump now with public job loss bullshit.

Macy's has sucked for 20 years or more now and sucked off the government titt for years, just like all the other Trump jobs "success" stories lately.

You are correct and with an amazing free return policys like Amazons and 2 day Prime shipping. People are ordering shit loads of items picking what they want and returning what they don't. Amazon has an issue.. They ship slow as balls unless you are Prime. I ordered some auto parts the other day.. The delivery time for "free" was the 17th.. That's me ordering last Sunday..

To rush the part for "2 day" shipping it was $60+ extra.. fuck that obviously.. This didn't even mean I'd get it in 2 days, it just meant after they shipped it would be 2 days.. They could take an additional 2 days just to ship it..

I opted for 1 other option for $4 extra which was delivery between the 6th & 11th..

Prime is $99 a year. Are you prime? Would you order 3 or more items a year if you were?

I get credits when items aren't received exactly on time, they credit shipping & a month or more prime fees whenever I request.

Hit or miss for me. Ordered 2 things on Sunday. The one in stock item from the private seller shipped Tuesday from Vegas due to holiday. The item that said in stock with Amazon as the shipper still hasn't shipped. So sometimes shit in stock at Amazon flies out the door and other times seems to take a day or two extra before any movement. If it's in stock wish they would just grab the bitch and ship it. They always bug me about Prime but honestly have never analyzed it to see if worth it for me.

Sales roles at retailers like Gucci will remain. Less need for an online presence as authenticity of the product and the status factor of interaction (in store or in home) is still valued.

There are a lot of jobs that are going to become legacy and a lot of people will not be able to adapt. The solution is not to give these people red MAGA hats and false promises.

What do you do with a retail clerk that is 40 years old with no vocational education? Today's menial wage jobs will be automated or robotized where possible for cost efficiencies. Turning back the hands of time is not a viable solution.

That's only going to work in <45% of the cases.
GM tried this in the 1990s with furloughed workers -- It did work is some cases but it wasn't a shining success story. A lot of these guys like these are now the 'deplorables' with their red MAGA hats on.
Some were unable to adapt.

I really don't have a solution but they are going to lose on this upcoming deal -- you can bet on that. Trickle down economics is not going to help them much.

I agree no one is perfect i have also had issues with them but mainly on stuff that comes from China, shipping times are outrageous if they even ship the stuff.

Speaking for myself, i buy around $2000-$3000 a month from Amazon so the prime membership @ $10 a month is well worth it. I buy a lot of tool related stuff and find it cost effective to ship from Amazon rather than drive 40 miles to the local Home Depot and most of the time Amazons prices are better.

I used to use e-bay more but people on there are charging stupid prices and shipping is sporadic at best.
