Tube site on collocation hosting with no CDN
Lets say I have a KVS tube site and I run it from a collocation hosting (my own equipment installed somewhere) from a place like Prague or Bratislava or something of that sort. I would not have a CDN and I could have like 200 people watching pics and videos on the site simultaneously, although it would be rather a less busy site (maybe 10k people per day, maybe 20k later on, something like that).
Would this work? Is this gonna be ok on such a hosting plan? Or do I need something different and the CDN for this to work. The people who sell collocation also limit the bandwidth or the speed of the line or something like this, so this could be a factor too. I would like to save max amount of money and do it cheap (but with good equipment) but would this work? I mean, buy like 100TB of disks, good RAM good processor or processors (I would not be saving on the equipment, it needs to be good and for the longer-term), make it into a cloud storage hosting with Linux (expandable) and go from there... |

Get colo as close to possible to where most of your customers will be if most of your tube site users are in the USA then get colo in the USA also don't forget you pay for bandwith when it comes to colo so your going to have to find a place that's cheap on that also.

get 100 mbps connection, then keep an eye on how traffic grows, then you need to upgrade to 1gbps line or more.
but why complicate things, there are CDN which can take care of data delivery . just get some cheap ass CDN if money is the issue, and relax. and focus on site. later you can upgrade to some good CDN ,

I want to save on hosting, pay like $250 (and if possible less) for a 100TB storage space hosting plan (self managed and self set up) and good processor/s and RAM. I don't want to pay like $800 for that. I am just starting and I am not making any $$$. I wont have hundreds of people simultaneously so it does not have to be the best thing that is out there (yet). KVS script, 100TB tube videos possibly, and something like 20,000 people a day, lets say. With this I want to save max amount of $$$ on hosting, like I said something around $250 per month could be good (collocation, with my own equipment).

You are truly putting the horse before the carriage here. If you can manage your server yourself, go with someone like OVH, they have servers in France, Germany, etc. If you can't manage your server yourself, start with a decent managed VPS and grow from there.

I have OVH now. Having 100TB of disk space with OVH would be an expensive thing. I want to see if I can get the same for less. Maybe I would be able to negotiate something with the OVH too.
