I'm optimistic

Now Trump needs to be a man of his word, and his supporters here need to hold him to his promises.

Jake Tapper on CNN said it best after the inauguration speech when he stated it was the most radical inauguration speech ever.

The only other speech in modern times that I remember where it wasn't just a "say-nothing of importance" speech was JFK's inauguration speech.

JFK actually called on the country to DO something. Since then...it's seemed to me that these speeches have been sort of "throwaways".

But today's was very different. Whether you like or hate Trump, I think you have to give him credit for having the balls to say what he did in his speech today.
AND to say it while surrounded by the very establishment policians he was calling out.

I like what he had to say. It's the way I've felt for a long time...that the govt. is RULING over us instead of governing and that most of the country truly has been left behind.

I'm hopeful that he is able to overcome the establishment in Washington D.C. and actually turn the ship around.
And if he can't...well, I guess we'll be no better off than if Hillary had won.

A lot of them found other jobs already as a couple weeks ago Trump advised all ambassadors they are fired as of 12:01pm today. The rest of the administration assumed the same for them. As If 1/20/2017 Mr. Trump has named only 29 of his 660 executive department appointments

Trump is litterally entering a Whitehouse gutted of staff.

Baddog.... With any other president I would be hopeful and optimistic.

I did not vote for President Bush. However, I watched his inauguration with fascination, hoped for the best, and was wildly optimistic. I supported him on the worst day of our nation's history, 9/11, supported our president when he went into Afghanistan and then later Iraq. After eight years of President Bush we were involved in two never ending wars, and the worst economy I've ever seen during my lifetime. People were losing their jobs and losing their houses; On the day Obama took office exactly half of the houses on my street were empty.

Along came Obama. I wasn't a huge supporter; He seem rather inexperienced. He was exactly what we needed - a calm and steady hand. I don't think he was our savior, but we are clearly much better off than when he took office. Unemployment went from a high of 12% to 4%, we reduced our footprints in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and while Obamacare has it's problems more people than ever have healthcare.

Now we have Trump. I am not hopeful, and I am not optimistic.

The very first thing he is going to is take away my healthcare. For the first time in my life I have free healthcare (meaning not through an employer). I have Kaiser here in California, it costs me $1200, but the government picks up 90% of that.

Then we have Russia. He wants to be great friends with Russia as they take land from Georgia, have taken over Crimea, and are fighting in Ukraine daily. Magical - Let's reward Russia for their actions.

Next up is the economy. Unemployment is at 4.6%. It's not going to get much better than that.

Trump wants to build up our military. I am former military so I think that is great, but... Why? We have the strongest and most powerful military in the world. The night before last while you and I were sleeping, our military launched two B2 bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, flew them around the world and destroyed two ISIS training camps. Why do we need a bigger military?

As President Elect Trump has had a stunningly low approval rating. He is the most unpopular president ever. I'm sorry but I cannot get behind this. I cannot support this.

Let's see where we stand a year or two from now.

Rochard, he has already said that he is not going to take away your healthcare.
He wants to make it affordable. Which in the current situation it is not.

High premiums and deductibles are killing people who pay for their own insurance.
During the confirmation hearings the example of a married couple who are 61 years old was brought up.
They are both in good health. They bought their insurance on the exchange. They aren't wealthy, but they work hard and make too much money to be subsidized by the govt. (the taxpayers).

Their deductible is $6,000 and their yearly premium is $39,000

That is ruining people financially. It has to stop. I've spoken many times about my own insurance. I'm with Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
For myself, my wife, and one of my daughters....our premium is now $1,523 a month. And we are all in good health.

I think that if Trump goes after the price gouging that the big Medical and Pharmaceutical companies are doing to us + some kind of tort reform + allowing competition between states...that we can all have affordable insurance and healthcare.

But in the meantime, Trump AND the Congressional leaders have all said over and over the last couple of weeks that they will not allow the insurance companies to drop everyone.

So just hang back and let's see how it plays out.

I'm assuming you have some kind of pre-existing condition or something that may have stopped you from getting insurance in the past?
Hopefully this will keep your current insurance and if things go the right way...make it more affordable for everyone.

That is what Pres. Obama was trying to do. It just didn't work out. Perhaps a new idea is needed to correct the problems.

You will never be able to convince people who don't like Trump to like him. They have been brainwashed and propagandized by the mainstream media. They are living in an alternate reality and basically hallucinating. Scott Adams talks about this in depth

I just pointed out to you that yes they do.

Several replacement plans have been offered up by the Republicans over the years but Pres. Obama had no intention on signing them (why would he?)

But Trump has also said that there is going to be a plan coming right away as well. Not sure if it's one of the ones that are already out there...or something he has himself.

But yes...both the President and the Congress have both said that they will replace it immediately when they repeal it.

And they also said that "no" you aren't going to lose your healthcare no matter what.

I can't make you believe what they say...and couldn't blame you because politicians lie all the time. But I can point out what they have put themselves on the line with public statements.

And while CNN never held Pres. Obama's feet to the fire on all the promises that were broken with ObamaCare...you can bet your ass they will hold Pres. Trump accountable for EVERYTHING.

He knows that. So let's see what the proposal is.
No matter what it is...it can't be much worse than it already is from a financial standpoint.

They don't have a plan yet Robbie. They have a fistful of ideas, but no firm plan.

If they had a plan, why wouldn't they just repeal Obamacare on the post and put their new plan in place?

Yes, they do have several plans.

Which one is the best one is the question. Maybe some of them suck. Maybe they all suck?
We don't know because they have never been put to vote because there was no way that Pres. Obama was going to repeal his own plan.

You can't just make statements like you just did...you have no idea what they do or don't have.
But I have heard several plans spoken about. And not just "ideas" but complete plans.

Remember...when ObamaCare was rushed through by the Democrat controlled Senate and House, our representatives were told by Nancy Pelosi that they had to vote on it before they could read it!

Now THAT turned out to be a very bad decision financially AND politically.

Watch what happens over the next couple of weeks.

I will make a prediction right now: Trump will move very, very fast. And I believe that you are going to be pleasantly surprised.
I'm very optimistic about our future.
I'm hoping a year from now we are toasting together in Vegas and laughing about how great things turned out.

JFK had a lot of shortcomings but he set a goal to put a man on the moon and the USA did it. That was one of the most monumental goals of mankind achieved to this date (notwithstanding the CT moon landing nut-cases).

The Internet and most of our technology can be traced back to these efforts and the basic scientific research that the government funded. GM or IBM did not put a man on the moon -- the government of American people did along with other nations' ingenuity.

Quote:
Vice President Johnson, Mr. Speaker, Mr. Chief Justice, President Eisenhower, Vice President Nixon, President Truman, Reverend Clergy, fellow citizens:

We observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom--symbolizing an end as well as a beginning--signifying renewal as well as change. For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forbears prescribed nearly a century and three-quarters ago.

The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe--the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.

We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans--born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage--and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

This much we pledge--and more.

To those old allies whose cultural and spiritual origins we share, we pledge the loyalty of faithful friends. United there is little we cannot do in a host of cooperative ventures. Divided there is little we can do--for we dare not meet a powerful challenge at odds and split asunder.

To those new states whom we welcome to the ranks of the free, we pledge our word that one form of colonial control shall not have passed away merely to be replaced by a far more iron tyranny. We shall not always expect to find them supporting our view. But we shall always hope to find them strongly supporting their own freedom--and to remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.

To those people in the huts and villages of half the globe struggling to break the bonds of mass misery, we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves, for whatever period is required--not because the communists may be doing it, not because we seek their votes, but because it is right. If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.

To our sister republics south of our border, we offer a special pledge--to convert our good words into good deeds--in a new alliance for progress--to assist free men and free governments in casting off the chains of poverty. But this peaceful revolution of hope cannot become the prey of hostile powers. Let all our neighbors know that we shall join with them to oppose aggression or subversion anywhere in the Americas. And let every other power know that this Hemisphere intends to remain the master of its own house.

To that world assembly of sovereign states, the United Nations, our last best hope in an age where the instruments of war have far outpaced the instruments of peace, we renew our pledge of support--to prevent it from becoming merely a forum for invective--to strengthen its shield of the new and the weak--and to enlarge the area in which its writ may run.

Finally, to those nations who would make themselves our adversary, we offer not a pledge but a request: that both sides begin anew the quest for peace, before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental self-destruction.

We dare not tempt them with weakness. For only when our arms are sufficient beyond doubt can we be certain beyond doubt that they will never be employed.

But neither can two great and powerful groups of nations take comfort from our present course--both sides overburdened by the cost of modern weapons, both rightly alarmed by the steady spread of the deadly atom, yet both racing to alter that uncertain balance of terror that stays the hand of mankind's final war.

So let us begin anew--remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof. Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate.

Let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us.

Let both sides, for the first time, formulate serious and precise proposals for the inspection and control of arms--and bring the absolute power to destroy other nations under the absolute control of all nations.

Let both sides seek to invoke the wonders of science instead of its terrors. Together let us explore the stars, conquer the deserts, eradicate disease, tap the ocean depths and encourage the arts and commerce.

Let both sides unite to heed in all corners of the earth the command of Isaiah--to "undo the heavy burdens . . . (and) let the oppressed go free."

And if a beachhead of cooperation may push back the jungle of suspicion, let both sides join in creating a new endeavor, not a new balance of power, but a new world of law, where the strong are just and the weak secure and the peace preserved.

All this will not be finished in the first one hundred days. Nor will it be finished in the first one thousand days, nor in the life of this Administration, nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. But let us begin.

In your hands, my fellow citizens, more than mine, will rest the final success or failure of our course. Since this country was founded, each generation of Americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty. The graves of young Americans who answered the call to service surround the globe.

Now the trumpet summons us again--not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need--not as a call to battle, though embattled we are-- but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, "rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation"--a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease and war itself.

Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic effort?

In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility--I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it--and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.

And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.

My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own.
Trump is no Kennedy.
Trump is no Lincoln.
Trump is no Regan.

Trump will most likely become a footnote -- unless he is indicted -- then all bets are off
