Is there any national dignity left in Mexico right now?

Anyone on here live in Mexico?

What's it like with all of this Trump and wall stuff? Your top two sources of national income are illegal immigrants sending money back to Mexico and the illegal drug trade. That is really pathetic. Then 80% of your legit trade relies on just one country; USA. And Trump is talking import tax on that.

Mexico is a third world nation on the brink of a doomsday level collapse and just one or two decisions by the US would be the tipping point. Do the people of Mexico recognize this?

TL;DR: How are Mexico's citizens taking Trump? Life as usual or is everyone in a panic?

I guess the real question is how does the USA feel that the largest buyer of US exports is an economy that is illegal immigrants and drug trafficking

future certainly doesn't look too bright for them, even if it's all a bluff, damage has already been done... for the near future most US companies will think twice and will likely postpone any major deals/investments/etc with Mexico...

loads... the people of Mexico at present are cheering their leader, the first for many years!

Trump´s been a blessing, not to the US, but to the rest of the world. We´ve had fun & laughter & he´s bought so many nations & citizens together because of his ignorance & stupidity. The way his voters want to still believe he´s not out for himself or line his sons pockets with the jobs & businesses, even after we see how he treats his wife & toned down when meeting Theresa May...

The world´s looking blightly, just hope the US can hold together until the next election, you can all sort things out then

Trump yells some things and people think he won the negociation?
It just started and Mexico has more options to stop that tax for instance.
The have dealt with this sort of things before.

In the end it will be good i think. Dutch agricultaral companies grow 25 - 40% a year in Mexico. With import taxes, lower pesos, less export to the USA, the export to Europe will grow. And they will aim at other continents when they are smart. And then when there is a new president, export to the USA can rise again.
And it looks the whole world is against Trump, Mexico as underdog can profit from that.

Short term it is bad, with a good Mexican government they can make Mexico stronger.
Biggest problem in Mexico is corruption and drug gangs, that wil the hardest thing to beat.

I know a girl that works for a german company in Mexico. #1 in sales, but no extra bonus this year. The goals for a bonus regarding to procuts grew. But when economy drops, us dollar drops there was nothing she could do altough she sold more.

I will see soon, will stay in Mexico for a few months. And i see more tourist are coming from Colombia and neighbouring countries cause Mexico has more to offer. And Mexico is easy with visa, you can get in for 6 months without visa, go out one week and come back another 6 months.

You don't seem to have much of a grasp on what really happens in Mexico - of course I'll just blame it on the news media as they don't show the real Mexico either

Mexico is the 15th largest economy in the world with a $2.3 trillion GDP - and the 6th largest oil producer in the world

Just about every car company in the world has plants there - including all of the American companies...and no matter what Trump says that isn't going to go away

With tech companies getting most of their parts manufactured there - from Microsoft with their XBox's to every computer company - the labor cost is a little higher than China, but that is compensated for by lower freight charges...and they have one of the highest populations of highly skilled tech engineers in the world

It is also the 8th leading country in the world for tourism - a huge industry that doesn't depend on the US in any way

Yeah - the US pulling out of NAFTA will probably decrease their economy by 2 or 3 percent...but that will also allow them to export more to other countries since there has always been a demand that they couldn't meet due to the restrictions of NAFTA

The other part of this is that the companies that will benefit the most from building Trumps wall are Mexican construction and cement businesses that have their offices in the US

yea, US plays a very minor role in Mexican economy...

Mexico's Exports:

Mexico Tourism by Country of Origin (Estados Unidos = United States):

so who are you kidding dude, if tension escalates they are completely fucked..

The "great" negotiator was told to fuck off!

Chump may have held the upper hand when it came to business, and was able to bully and sue people to do what he wanted, which he thinks made him a great negotiator.

But now he's in the big leagues playing with players who know how to play the game and can't be bullied or intimidated

In less than twenty-four hours our new President started a trade war with one of our largest trading partners. Right now in Mexico they are protesting the United States, and starting boycotts aimed at American products.

His supporters ignore that.

They also ignore that Trump wanted to slap a 20% tariff on Mexico, which would raise prices we pay by 20%

His supporters ignore that Trump & Nieto spoke privately and Nieto forced Trump to agree not to talk publicly about diplomacy and policy.

Trump supporters ignore a lot of really important things.

Mexico has never experienced on moment of national dignity.

They're "hispanic". All of the noise they make about "pride" is really a struggle against shame.

Mexico has been collapsed since 1821.

if anything it's up to 20%, a lot of that 20% would get absorbed by Mexico, some by US companies... only fraction of that would reach the consumer...

and that's assuming nothing would change, and that simply 20% tariff would be paid... but the whole point of it is that things would change...

for example lets say it costs $1.00/lb to grow tomatoes in Mexico, and $1.02/lb in the US... ignoring transportation costs and other details, obviously it makes more sense to buy from Mexico...

20% tariff gets imposed, Mexican tomatoes now cost $1.20... what will happen? we will just grow tomatoes ourselves for $1.02... impact of that is obviously complicated, it will be combination of positive (more employment, more investment in the US, etc) and negative (higher prices) factors... but overall impact is difficult to predict...

[this logic is obviously simplified a lot, but it's not quite "prices will go up by 20%" like many are saying]

The smart ones risk life and limb to leave that festering shithole.

Sounds like a nation of failure. Actions speak. Border jumpers prove it.

Notice how Hollywood hasn't moved there now that Trump is President.
No one is stupid enough to want to live there. They HAVE TO live there.

Machismo is their pathetic attempt to experience what its like to walk around with your head held high in dignity. When their lyin eyes remind them that they have only been able to create a third world shithole with all their futile effort it must sting like a motherfucker.

Actually bro, you don't understand. Mexico is 9th in the number foreign entries, which very much DOES depend on the United States, and only 24th in foreign tourism receipts, which also heavily depends on the United States. USA citizens crossing the border for a short trip is a large part of their revenue and visit numbers.

If travel from the USA is further discouraged, the economy will tank, a fact that professional currency traders who trade currency every day based on facts already know.

I don't necessarily support a wall, but we shouldn't advertise the fiction that somehow the US will be adversely impacted by it more that Mexico.

impose high taxes on imports to the USA to make people produce at a higher cost in the USA and make this US domestic product equally less attractive to the domestic and foreign markets...sounds like its going to work LOL

Exports only account for 15% of their GDP - so since the US is 74% of that ....leads to what a 12% hit on their GDP...which other countries have been clamoring for - and will now get - so like I said...maybe a 2% hit

Tourism numbers showing number of visitors includes 50% of people crossing the border for business - what your chart doesnt show is the amount spent per country - and it's effect on GDP which is again very low
so I respectfully disagree - there is no real economic effect and really the only effect I can see from all of this is that prices in the US for products and oil will skyrocket

Isn't California already maxed out on their water supply for agriculture? How can they justify using even more of that water on avocados and other fruits & veg that are cheaper to let Mexico grow?

You would be incorrect. Tourism revenue from the US averages over $1,000 per foreign visit according to UNWTO. From South and Central America, perhaps $300. The Mexican economy will be devastated. Further, investment, remittances, and manufacturing account for a huge portion of Mexico's economy.

When you consider that a 4% loss in GDP is a huge shock, you can anticipate the effect. This is the reason the peso changes so rapidly on news of improving relation due to Slim Helu or talks by both leaders. If Mexico didn't need revenue from the US, Peña Nieto wouldn't even be talking to him.

The british slaughtered native Americans in USA.

The french slaughtered native Americans in canada.

The spanish had sex with native Americans across central America all the way to Mexico.

The result is what we see today.

Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, Purto Rico, etc... would all be similar to Europe and North America had early spanish settlers taken full domination of their new lands. Instead, the Spanish gene pool got diluted. Later Spanish immigrants had a better shot at keeping things pure. They would go on to become Mexico's ruling class.

Look at photos of the Mexicans who come across the US border. They don't look anything like Mexico's ruling class, do they? The truth is, spanish mexicans are deliberately nudging native mexicans across the border. They are trying to fix Mexico postmortem. I think we all hope they succeed, but not at the expense of USA taking on bad genes.

You will never ever see this being discussed mainstream. But this is how it is.

I'm sorry but that amount of money on tourism is nothing compared to their GDP - a 2 bill loss isn't going to make a dent on their 2 trillion GDP - just my opinion

I think they are getting more water than they can handle right now

Yeah - we'll keep that auto parts thing a secret for right now - he's just playing to a certain demographic right now - it will go away once he figures out that trade deals with Mexico and Canada are part of the same package - I'm amazed no one has brought up Canada yet

Then why is 4% growth fantastic,
2% growth "subpar"
0% growth "anemic"
-2% growth recession
-4% growth devastating?

Answer, because a little bit means a lot. 8% between enormous growth and crushing loss. 2% makes a difference.

Life as usual or is everyone in a panic?
hum.... so the Mexican government stripped it's populous of dignity, the point that the people must SNEAK OUT OF THE COUNRTY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT and it's trumps fault? pls explain?

seriously dude your fucked up in the head lol!!
