Religion in Iraq

Ok, I am a little upset so I am going to air!

I watched MSNBC last night when they showed Christian Help Organisation give out food to the the Muslims in Iraq. With each box of food they also had to take the bible.

Christian Missionaries went into hospitals and gave comfort and bibles to the wounded Iraquies.

That is so wrong. I am not a religious person, I believe to each their own, don't put your believes on me, expecially attached to some box of aid. But a lot of these people are starving, don't have water or necessities and giving them those supplies with a bible attached is just sad.

Those god damn Christians, isn't it amazing how they can manage to make it into Iraq to give out bibles?

This country is Muslim, leave them alone. Respect their believes. Don't show your soles, respect their mosques, and don't look at their women.

There was a news article in an arabic newsletter today regarding this. WTF..

Christians! bah humbug (sp?)
Ah, sorry, I am just annoyed with that shit.

Christians respect nobody's beliefs but their own.

In Jamaica they used to use bible papers as rolling papers for joints. They got the bibles for free, so it was way cheaper than actually buying rolling papers.

The best way to legitimize your religion is to build up the numbers of people that believe in it.

If only 100 people share a set of beliefs, values, and practices, it is a "cult", if you grow the number of believers to 1 billion it becomes a "religion"

Well, you have to "personalize" Christians! As I know those are majorly Prods and Catholics, right? As we all know, catholics are bit of agressive with "their" missions, so now we have people of South America, bigger catholics than pope! Think about that.
It's not right to put all Christians in one, agressive religion!
Authentic Christians really don't see muslims, or any non christian nation as potentional object of baptism!

Authentic Christians? Maybe I'm misguided in my interpretation of history, but wouldn't Catholics by the "authentic Christians", rather than the protestants.

But that's really beside the point. We'll never evolve as a species until we give up our primitive belief systems and search for the truth.

Why is promoting someone's beliefs wrong; moreover, one that reflects our values?

There is nothing wrong with promoting beliefs - this is called freedom of expression. Within a context it may appear to run against the grain tho!

The term "reflects our values" - whose values are ya speaking of?
This expression has been repeated parrot fashion in rhetoric by Bush and means little. The "values" of the US, at least those promoted by the current US Admin, are extremely low and mainly irrelevant to the rest of the world. Morality is not a word that blends well with Washington.

What may be the values of some, are not the values of the vast numbers of people on this planet. Many have cultures and traditions centuries back - before anyone ever heard of the upstart delinquent idiot kid on the block - the United States.

while this is true.

the third largest religion in iraq is the Chaldeans. Which is mostly CHRISTIAN.

its mainly the catholics that hold their bible as a buckle.

http://www.chaldeansonline.net/church.html

a very old religion.
<font size="1">

'While several apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ preached in Mesopotamia e.g. St. Thomas the Apostle, between 35-37 A.D., St. Peter the Apostle in 54 A.D., the Church of the East, which the Chaldean Church is a daughter, gives much credit for its formal establishment to the efforts of St. Thaddeus (Mar Addai), one of the 72 Apostles, who preached in Mesopotamia between 37-65 A.D. After the martydom of Mar Addai, two of his disciples continued the missionary work, they were Mar Agai (65-87 A.D.) and Mar Mari (88-121 A.D.)

The Church of the East was the most vibrant Christian church in the world for several centuries and to it goes the credit for spreading Christianity in India Link and China Link. Actually, the Christians of India were under the direct jurisdiction of the Church of the East from the 4th till the 16th century when the colonial Portuguese, under Rome's instructions, forcefully severed that relation. Actually, Rome only rised to supremacy during the fourth century when the Roman Empire embraced Christianity as its official religion. That had an adverse effect on the Church of the East, where by its territory became divided between the competing powers at the time, the Roman and the Persian Empires (Mesopotamia under the Persian, while current days Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, and Jordan under the Roman). Also as a conequence of that, the Persian rulers of Mesopotamia unleashed several massacres against their Christian subjects who now became suspected of sympathy with their Roman adversaries. To avoid those massacres, the Christians of Mesopotamia severed their relations with their brethren in the Roman ruled territories.'</font>

these things are false.

they brought their religion to the states as well.

the cladeans are NOT muslim and make up a significant part of iraq religion.

that Tariz guy was Chaldean.

What I meant by 'our values' is a general/basic Christian beliefs. I didn't mean to imply that all American's are Christian.

Perhaps we need to send some kind of porn missionary or porn relief agency over there and give those people electricity, computers and credit cards so they can start buying porn. There's plenty of religion in that country already. Better access to porn would probably help keep looters off the street too. And hey, what is freedom without some "free porn" too. But, damn it, don't give it all away. Perhaps there could be some sort of credit system where they get our porn and we get credit at our local gas station.

Sorry mate, I didn't mention Orthodox Christians??? As I know, they are authentic Christians, rather passive towards non christians, than catholics?
First Christian Church established is Yermenian ORTHODOX Church. Than Jerusalem JEWISH council, became organised Christian Church, which was later maintained by Greeks, even now. Some Copts and Palestinian Christians took participation in Jeruslem Patriarchate, but at the end, it's Orthodox.
Catholics are situated in Rome, right? What's there authentic? Center of Christianity was till 15th century Asia Minor, Palestine and the Balcans....
