People send bots out and scan websites for names. Hell, send one through dmoz, tell it to go 5 levels deep, will get a shitload of email addresses to sell, but 80%+ my guess would be webmaster ones.

Why? Because SPAMMERS ar low life, bottom feeding vermin who don't care whether they are spamming an adult webmaster, or your 10 year old daughter. They don't care where they dropping their turdlets as long as they make a buck. Most probably are incapabable of making money if it requires some hard work....

We get a TON of spam email through our support addresses.

One company a while back was sending directly to my personal email address this nasty email..... I contacted their billing company, and they said "we can't do anything". I explained I run a damn porn company and understands how it all works, but they still said they couldn't do anything.

So I just forwarded all of my email directly to their support email address. Fuck 'em.

i got that same brunob spam. Didnt even have a referral link, just a hard link to brunob.com, so I think someone who actually works/owns/affiliated with brunob is spamming them.

Washington state was one of the first states to pass an anti-spam law.

Primarily what it goes after is "false headers and false subject lines". They even have a website to report violations. Penalty is actual damages or $500 whichever is greater per occurrence.

"The Law is Broken When:

Commercial unsolicited e-mail is sent with:

* a false header OR
* a misleading subject line OR
* a third party's address is used without permission as the point of origin of the e-mail,

AND the e-mail is sent:

* to a Washington e-mail address OR
* from a computer located in Washington

The law only applies when a sender knows or has reason to know the e-mail is being sent to Washington.

HOW DOES A SENDER FIND OUT IF AN E-MAIL ADDRESS IS LOCATED IN WASHINGTON?

* The sender checks with the domain name registrant (usually the Internet Service Provider) before sending the e-mail.
* If the information is available, the sender is deemed to know the address is in Washington
* Even if the sender fails to inquire about the information, as long as it's available, the sender is deemed to know. "
