Possibilty of Bitcoin Secret Key Collision?
Possibilty of Bitcoin Secret Key Collision?
Could something like quantum computing destroy virtual currencies by brute forcing bitcoin secret keys? There was an SHA-1 collision created recently. AIDS

Maybe in the next 20 years it may be possible using quantum computing but I think the source code will be added to and improved over time.

Not that I know anything about that stuff but I read that article about SHA-1 collision and I think they had the power of Google to do the computing.

It's only a matter of time. Newer versions of Bitcoin will probably offer re-keying of your addresses with a newer and more secure hash algorithm, but there could be some problems with "dark" funds, such as those held by Satoshi, or largely ignored "long term" paper wallets.
I imagine there's at least some computing power trying to crack Satoshi's keys right now. |
