New Two Legged Robot Runs Faster Than Humans

This has potential to be very cool

FF to 1:03

The ?bot is called the Planar Elliptical Runner and can motor along at 10 miles per hour, which is faster than the average marathon runner.

However, if it was scaled up to human size the tiny terror could reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour ? quicker than the 27.8 mph achieved by Usain Bolt during the 100 metres sprint at the World Championships in 2009.

Boffins at the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition in Florida designed the speedy droid to show how robots could walk and run on two legs ? just like humans.

What good is that -- robots can fly distances. We don't need a robot that runs fast when it can fly and land near where it needs to be. 'fast' is the keyword -- if elliptical motion is more stable at creeping over terrain undetected (stealth bot) ... We are getting into the killer robot train of thought.

Cool robot concept but for what practical use -- the Robotic Olympics -- entertainment?

Release 100 or 1,000 of them armed with explosives in the Afghan mountains capable of following a running human into a cave

Killer robots+pest control
How much will it cost? $4 million per/dead terrorist? Needs to be cost effective

We could pay coal miners families $100K and strap c4 to them and send them into the caves too -- kill 2 birds with one stone.

Used to have Medicaid and welfare now need a job?
Join the anti-terror army and provide for your family's future!

That's cold -- thanks Trump!

Perhaps for people who lose limbs? Prosthetic applications?

That's the only issue. Something can cost $5 to mass produce, slap MILITARY on the label and it will cost 100 times more out the gate.
