they introduced this new "violent driving" law and if you get caught you get 30-60 days mandatory prison and there is a new proposal that they even confiscate your car...I hate "fast and furious" types and I hope they catch as much of them as possible...

I personally consider driving recklessly in urban areas attempted murder...kudos to anybody who takes their car to a race track and crash wraps it around a tree like a piece of art...but putting other people in danger is simply not acceptable...the law is very popular among normal people down here, the mandatory jail time is not long enough IMO...

Together with taxes on tobacco and fuel, speeding tickets are the primary cash cow of our government. It's completely insane.

I don't have a clue. Those laws are made to get money, not to help anyone. Usually, I drive naturally within the limits. On the open road, I am using GPS with a warning and don't have a need to drive fast. If I need to drive fast around the city, the police is predictable and I can compensate their crap.

Anyway, fines are too high which is ineffective considering that rich people don't give a shit, they will easily pay it. Limits are also too low. The purpose of these laws is to get money from the people, nothing else.

I am stationed in Korea and traffic fines are dirt cheap!

Running a red light: 50,000 won ($45)
Speeding 01 to 20 kilometers over 30,000 won ($25)
Speeding 21 to 30 kilometers over 50,000 won ($45)

The most expensive ticket will be riding in the bus lane which is 90,000 won ($85)

It's around $125-200ish here.
Then the cops are dicks and say "If you can't pay it you can ask for a reduction in court" Then if you do "Ok, I'll drop it $50 plus court fees" which are $65...

It's very high here, and you lose a bunch of points, especially if you are speeding near a construction zone or a school.

I used to speed regularly but smartened up. It's been about 8 or 9 years since I've had any kind of ticket.

15 - 800?

if you speed over 60km/h in non-urban areas = 800? - if you have the money to pay immediately at the place, if not, I believe it can be as high as 1,000?

Same thing here in the United States of America

Here in the Monarach Beach - Dana Point area it's best to put a local sticker on your back window or bumper if you're a local, that way the cops wont target you as a tourist or visitor from LA or Riverside.

You only get 3km/hr leeway here. If you do 64km/hr in a 60 zone, you get fined, starting at about USD135, and increasing in tiers for every +10km over.

You also lose points which can result in the loss of your licence.

If you're caught doing 35km/hr or more over, your car is impounded for 30 days.

as Rowan mentioned 30km or more is also about $2500 fine + court costs as your never getting just one fine expect to be rooted as getting licence back after that would take years. If your doing that then your also cutting lanes etc and doing a whole lot more wrong to be fined for.

I'm in Victoria, Australia. We have some pretty tough "hoon" laws.

The other fun thing is that the car gets impounded regardless of who owns it. It's your mum's car? Too bad, she'll be without it for 30 days. I think for repeat offenders there's also the possibility of the vehicle being destroyed (crushed).

no idea.. Last speeding ticket I got was in the early 90's. I only go over 10mph out on country roads.

Think it's stupid to speed around other cars and I hate those people that say they can control their cars at high speeds. It's not about you asshole when you have others on the road that might not be expecting your style of driving.

Dang you guys get off easy. In California they add a penalty assesment of 150% of fine. Tickets usually end up in the $300-$400 range.

I've beaten my last three with a simple system...... ;-)

We only get 12 points on a licence to last 3 years 15km over = 3 points off licence.
no seat belt another 2 per belt not fastened including passengers. Neg driving other 3 and lucky usually to only get the one fine. If you over 30km you lose it instantly. If you accumulate the 12 points over 3 years you lose licence. If you get licence back you get 1 point only for 12 mnths so anything is lack of licence. If you lose first time disqualified 3-6 months second time 12 months once in the rut you stay in the rut until you can get those 12 points back if you can. I lost my licence many times as young man once through accumulation and then on last week every time in end I just stopped driving till the year ran out, Have had a gold licence for probably 15 years now but growing up was hard for being targeted looking young and always in cars as used to sell cars and drive imports.

Highest possible speeding fine here (50kph or more over the limit) is 500PLN so about 120 euros. Highway speed limit is 140kph

I have no idea. The only speeding tickets I've ever gotten have been "exceeding 100 MPH". And those were a long time ago.

It's not the fine so much but the $400-$600 per year increase in car insurance that hurts.

My last one was 16 months from the previous one so I couldn't do the traffic school, you can only do that once every 18 months

So... spill the "simple system" I'm going out on my bike tomorrow and the risk of another speeding ticket will be quite high

The system is pretty easy here in California.

After you get the ticket logon to the court website. Request a 3 month extension or longer for arraignment. At arraignment plead not guilty and ask for OR bail so you dont have to pay the fine in advance (they changed this recently, you used to have to pay bail up front when pleading not guilty). When they give you your court date say that you will be out of the country on that date and ask for a different court date. (This fucks with the officer availability).

Your court date will be 6 to 9 months after you got original ticket.

Show up for court and hope the officer doesnt show up.

This has worked for me 3 out 4 tickets, I have the trial for the 4th on the 26th so i'll let you know if I beat that one as well.

Or you could just slow down.
