you should probably assume your monthly bw will be more than the size of your library. usually by hundreds of percent.

members only traffic is low yes. So if only members can access to the videos this bandwidth usage will be low -If someone not to try to hunger on all of the videos in one month though-.

what makes you think member area bw is low? members want 1080p minimum now. a few of those breaks your 20gb. one member downloading your library is 500gb. we have sites doing 1tb of downloads per hour.

you're going in the wrong direction. you should figure out the top limits (max you can handle) not the bottom.

yes you can stream directly from S3.

if you care about content protection then S3 it is more open than a streaming servers (any user can download the video), but significantly cheaper.

in this case you should use ec2 instance or their Wowza solution.

if you willing to put the time into AWS, it is the one of the efficient, cheapest, secure and high performing options today

s3 is open public but no one can see if I put those with wordpress s2member shortcodes.

However I can also go with cloudfront but I only want to pay s3. One more is not required.

i just did PornCMS traffic report for the last 12 months ending aug 31, 2017.

Total = 2,643.3 TB

we only have about 300 active sites.

shit anyone paying metered these days should get a really nice polished pole and shove it really deep up the ass of their host. the airfare is worth it.

S3 is a bit pricey, especially for larger video files. I wouldn't recommend it for video libraries. Especially with 1080p and 4K videos.

Here are some alternative Object Storage solutions:

- BackBlaze B2
- From my own experimenting it's very fast for large files, slow for thumbnails (too much latency)

- OVH Object Storage (standard OpenStack APIs, S3 compatible I think)
- Haven't tested yet but super cheap and it's OpenStack so it's open
- Not much documentation or resources so you need to know your way around OpenStack

I'm assuming you're talking about the their VPS and Dedicated offerings? Yeah, that's one of the reason they are so cheap. Crappy docs and support being another.

There's no software to install to use their object storage, they manage everything. You just access it through an API.

As a follow up, I've been experimenting with Digital Ocean's Object Storage offering. Seems to be fairly compatible with S3 but much cheaper. I got the standard upload, delete, list, and signed url for secure content working. Going to test it out with a new site I'm building.
