Do you still own a working VHS player?

I still hang on to an old portable 14inch cathode ray tube tv with a video player bulit in, 'just incase'...

I still have a few vhs tapes knocking about, but nothing special. I just cant be fucked to throw them away. But I hold on to that TV just incase I ever need to play a VHS in the future.

What about you? Could you play a VHS tape if your life depended on it? Or a loved ones life for that matter? Example would be that they had been kidnapped by a villain from a 1980s movie, and you needed to view the tape to check they were alive and learn how to deliver the ransom? or summat... ?

Not even seen a tape in years. I used to have a VHS with the first two terminator movies on it. It was a pain in the ass, if you wanted to watch the second one you had to fast forward all the way through the first.

I'm not sure that I could play a DVD if my life depended on it, LOL. I'd have to go to the office. No players of any sort at home or on home computers, including laptop.

Still have one along with a pretty big VHS movie collection. Haven't touched it in years except to dust it.

Also have the audio cassette collection I had since I was a kid. Don't have a working player for that though. I actually bought a rackmount pro cassette deck off eBay a couple years ago but it was defective so I had to return it.

For some reason I can't bring myself to throw that stuff out.

VHS Tapes are the new vinyl according to my sales figures. They're no where near what they were in the 90s but they're definitely better than they've been in the last 5 years.

I used to use my VHS Hi-Fi VCR to capture my live mixes of trance tracks. This was in about 2000, so my computer wasn't fast enough to be able to both output and capture audio at the same time.

Still have the VCR and a small collection of movies.

Those pesky 80's villains - There was one in the pub just the other night - Or I might have been watching an old episode of Eastenders...

If anyone has old personal tapes kicking around, get them converted into digital format while you can. VHS is an analog format, and has no forward error correction like CDs and DVDs do, so if your tape starts deteriorating the effects will show immediately.

Same thing happens to MiniDV. It's a digital format but it uses tape media, so it's prone to dropouts as the tape deterioriates. I had to use special software that detects dropouts and repeatedly replays that section to try to recover valid data. These tapes were in storage for only 5 or 7 years.

Still have a barely-used JVC SVHS machine...somewhere. And around 1000 VHS tapes still stored in the office. No porn - mostly mainstream movies, TV shows and tons of camcorder footage from the 80s and 90s.

I have 8 working VHS machines. And about 8 broken ones that I can't be bothered to fix.

I do analog to digital transfers - otherwise I wouldn't have even one

All my records, 8 tracks, cassettes and vhs tapes were given away or tossed. Have maybe 500-600 cds and 100 or so blu-rays currently but rare I touch them.

Did buy a used VCR because I have 1 vhs tape someone gave me after I did some lighting work on a production but still haven't watched it.
