Tanker carrying liquefied natural gas from Russia?s Arctic arrives in Boston

A tanker carrying liquefied natural gas from a sanctioned project in Russia?s Arctic has arrived in Boston Harbor, where it will be offloaded for American users.

The giant tanker is carrying the first LNG exported by the Yamal facility, a $27 billion project whose majority owner is the Russian company Novatek. As of Sunday evening, the tanker was in the Mystic River at an LNG terminal, where the liquefied cargo will be turned back into gas form and distributed to gas companies and electric power utilities.

The Treasury Department issued sanctions aimed at weakening Russia?s energy sector in July 2014, after Russia annexed Crimea and backed separatists in eastern Ukraine. The sanctions forbid any financing for projects belonging to Novatek, Russia?s largest independent producer of natural gas.

The way its come in and the amount of hands its been through is hardly business as usual. Some how I don't think Russia got the normal asking price ;) It was sent to the UK, the UK wouldn't touch it so a highest bidder was sort. Read the article you linked.

LNG gas more expensive than from pipelines through which Russia sell before. In USA shale gas more expensive even though pipelines.

The first shipment was 2 months ago, two ships had sold in the USA. It is the new project. In your pdf USA not include.

The project is developed by JSC Yamal LNG. Novatek owns 50.1% stake in the company while Total S.A(France). and CNPC own 20% each with China's Silk Road Fund has signed agreement to purchase 9.9% stake. General director of the company was Gleb Luxemburg and from September 2014 Evgeny Kot has been appointed the CEO of Yamal LNG. Also alternative project named Yamal LNG was proposed by Gazprom. In November 2008, Gazprom announced that it prepares a list of potential partners for the LNG plant of the Yamal project. Although the list was not disclosed, Gazprom indicated that ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips were included on the list. Also Royal Dutch Shell, Repsol YPF and Petro-Canada were mentioned as potential partners.
