A Massachusetts law banning possession of bump stocks and other accessories that increase a gun?s rate of fire went into effect on Thursday, making the state the first to enact such legislation in the wake of last year?s deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Bump stocks allow semi-automatic rifles to simulate automatic fire. The accessory replaces a standard rifle stock ― the piece that rests against the shoulder ― and harnesses a weapon?s recoil to slide the gun rapidly back and forth onto the shooter?s trigger finger, firing each time.

The gunman who opened fire on tens of thousands of concertgoers in Las Vegas last October had attached bump stocks to at least a dozen assault-style rifles, law enforcement officials said. He was able to shoot more than 1,100 rounds over the span of a few minutes, killing 58 people and wounding 422. More than 400 others were injured in the chaos caused by the shooting.

?We saw in Las Vegas the carnage, which far exceeded the carnage of any other mass shooting in U.S. history, and it made it very clear to me that there?s no purpose whatsoever for a bump stock, other than killing a lot of people very quickly,? said John Rosenthal, founder of Stop Handgun Violence, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit that advocated for the measure.

Bump stocks ?should be banned, and I am proud of Massachusetts to be the first state in the nation to do the right thing,? he said.

California and New York had banned the devices before the Las Vegas shooting.

Maybe just have a system in place that asks simple questions like.. if some ones stock piling automatic weapons and ammo shouldn't that be reported to someone somewhere instead of thinking.. that's totally normal behaviour.

Meanwhile liberal hero Elon Musk publicly sells 20,000 flame throwers over night.. and everyone hero cheers???.

It really saddens me when people are willing to lay their freedom at the boots of the federal government while cowering please protect me.....I own a lot of guns, a lot of ammo I own fully automatics (machine guns) and suppressors/silencers legally...you have to jump through a lot of hoops but as long as you can get a carry permit you should have no problem getting the stamps for the machine guns...but truth is if you own these weapons yer on the radar so you arent going to use them for anything illegal. Making Bump stocks illegal wont do a damn thing.

I understand why, but it's not gonna change much. Bad guys will always get their hands on illegal guns, mods or other weapons. This law wont fix anything unfortunately.

WRONG. The shooter did NOT actually use bump stocks in the shooting. It was a real full-auto. Bump stocks don't give a a steady rate of fire like you hear in the videos. They are a joke, no one uses them because accuracy goes way down. Also, you can't use one and have your gun on a bi-pod (as seen in the photos) No way that works.

Banning bump stocks is pointless bullshit,
