SSL Questions ( HTTPS)

I have about 20-30 wordpress blogs, and 3 tubes

the tubes have embedded videos on said blogs, the code says http

If I move said tube to https, the embedds wont work anymore ?

Also, how difficult is it to transition to https and is it wise to do it right now?

When my sites made the switch I went in and did a find / replace in MySQL database. As long as you don't have any affected outgoing links that need to stay HTTP, this should work.

And if the resource tube videos are http, there could be an issue with security.

Please back everything up first before trying!

Google will soon flag websites without HTTPS so you'd better make the switch now than later

The https will work fine, if the site that you embed videos also support https, but most of sites these do, so there should be any issues. If you are with a managed hosting, they will set up the SSL certificate for you.

Those video embeds will work, but the video pages with them will be marked as non secure.

There's a free SSL out there Sir, Google it.
If you have a fully managed server your host will install it too..oh and as long as you don't have absolute links..
You can globally find and replace them though..

Just use CloudFlare... It's easy, adds layer of protection and a free CDN... great free service...

Yes, there are free ones, but aren't they resulting in those big splash warning pages?
I mean something like this:

?
This is worse than having some small warning in chrome address bar...

No. Our clients now have Let's Encrypt installed on thousands of domains. Paysites, tubes, you name it. Do not have the issue that you posted.

What do you think about google webmaster? Https registers as a completely different website

I'm pretty sure it might be significant longterm rank losses as well as traffic like in case of domain change with 301 redirect, don't you think? There is absolutely no guarantee that switch will be fast.

Do You Have Any Experience with tubes switch? And how's your traffic now?
Is 301 redirect was enough for you and how long did switch take?

This happens (https) when your certificate has expired or no certificate at all (self signed certificate).
When the connection is http, you won't get this big splash.

I had a wordpress site and moved it over to https. It was pretty simple. Let me know if you need help.

There was some tedious stuff of going through and updating social links to https versions.

What is the cheapest way to have ssl with say 20 website as my host is going to charge $50 a year. I have just setup a test account with cloud flare but that looks like its only 1 domain name.

We have clients that we literally setup thousands of SSL certificates for. It's moderately simple to do with the right scripts and modules in place.

Your web host should be able to take advantage of the Let's Encrypt certificates at no cost.

*puts SEO hat on*

For https redirects, make sure you force https using .htaccess, you then want to go into webmaster tools and set your site preference to https/www (or non-www).

All content served on the page should be from https sources. This includes style sheets, images and videos. Your page won't be considered secure otherwise (and for good reason).

You may see a reduction in traffic, but it's better to get it done as soon as possible. There's no reason not to have every website https, and plenty of reasons to have them all https.

It will give you an SEO boost. non-secure websites are on their way out.

Quoted for truth. Very reliable and VaCares has it by default.
