Secrets About the Android Market Google Does Not Want You To Know

I know you think this is a clickbait title and... it is... well a little, I found a data set of 1000 apps and since I am interested in getting into the app market I decided to analyse the information and share it with you guys, I made a few graphs about the market and I will share my insights with you.

First things first these is how the market is divided, in this graph you will see the categories for each app and how much is the average price per category and for the total market (the average price for any app is .77 cents)

Now, this average prices are a little bit tricky because there are A LOT of apps with a price of $0 so, if I remove those apps and I leave the paid ones what are the real averages per category and the market average?

You can see how the Finance, Lifestyle and Events categories are the ones that have the most expensive apps and the average price of the market are $18 usd

Now lets see what are the categories with the biggest number of apps, so this graph will show you the percentage of the total size of the market that each category uses example the Family category have 18.19% of the total amount of all the apps.

Now lets analyse what are the prices per categories, so this image will show you the highest prices per category and the average of the market

WOW we can see there are some apps that are priced at $400 dollars .... may be in a follow up post I will post which apps are those..., but meanwhile you can see that in the medical category are $200 apps... how many people buy them? what are their ratings?... lets keep going.

Because we have analyzed the size of the market and the prices so what is the percentage of apps that are free vs the apps that are paid according with the sample we have?

96% free and 7% paid... interesting... now which categories are the ones with the biggest amount of paid apps? whichones with the biggest amount of free ones? here are the answers:

Now lets see if there is a relationship between the apps that are paid and the ones that are free lets see that.

We can see that NO there is no relationship between the price and the ratings, they seem to be 2 independent variables meaning that people do not rate higher free apps.

what about the number of reviews? is there are a relationship beween the # of reviews and the price?

Yes, here it seems that the free apps have way more reviews than the paid ones (which honestly makes sense)

and the same happends between the # of installs vs the price (meaning that free apps have bigger number of installs than the paid ones)

I will be adding more information if anybody is interested and if you have questions write them here in the thread and I will try to update it with the information I have.... I will be realising soon an analysis about the SEO in the adult videos world so you can have better results in your efforts.

Um... no?

I'll be more clear.

A possible reason for some apps in the price range of hundreds of dollars could be money laundering. Money laundering via apps is a thing.

I just have one question.

When you are looking at the pricing in those graphs, does any of the amounts include recurring payments or income ?

For instance,
I may buy a app for $10
But to use it, I might have to spend $1 for each time I access resourses.

Just trying to get a more complete picture.
The only way to resolve the issue correctly is to have more complete data set. But I'm guessing, you don't really have access to that data and or have not considered it.

But, I'm sure the folks that make the most money with their apps have recurring payments. And I doubt these graphs reflect that. But I could be wrong, so I'm asking.

edit:
But I could be making $100k yr on recurring payments but only charge $10 for the app... ...and only sold 100 apps.

ok so according with your logic the reason why some people may go to a bar is because they are alcoholics... yes some people MAY launder money with apps, just like some people MAY go to the bar because they are alcoholics BUT not all the people that goes to the bars are alcoholics nor all the price related issues in the apps are due money laundering...

Dude , let me make it clear.

People will wonder why there are apps for hundreds of dollars, money laundering is one of the explanations. They also lander money via free apps using in game currency.

Hey thanks for the question, yes you are absolutelly right, I am not taking about revenue I am talking about pricing so even if there is an ongoing fee the ongoing fee will be calculated based on the price they shared, I hope that answered your question, cheers.

I don't think paid apps can compete with the free apps. How much did candycrush make?

great info OP...here is the $400 app you talked about:

Abu Moo collection

Price: $400 for each of the six apps

Abu Moo’s collection of apps will simply add a gem widget on a customized background on your Android device. The creator of the apps invites users to buy the suite just to “impress poor friends” and “show them a widget they do not own and never will.”

It’s a pretty ludicrous marketing strategy. Combine that with the fact that the apps haven’t been updated since 2013 and we really can’t think of any good reason why any sane person would want to purchase one of these apps. Buying the entire Abu Moo collection would entail paying $2,400 and there’s a lot you could be doing with that money instead.

What about free apps that instead collect in-app purchases? I know of a few that collects massive amounts of dollars with this method.

I don't know, the revenue is not publicly available, here I am talking about price and I am trying to analyse the different pricing strategies that exist in the market

Yes, but the important thing IMO is to analyze how they are making money and understand the marketing strategy to see how they make money.
