I never understood why people go and wait in line and vote in person... When you can take your time and vote from home, researching each issue as you do it.

why do you think people wait until they are on line to research who and what they are voting for?

we make a day of it and go vote AFTER making our decisions then have a nice lunch etc., change of scenery, hobnobbing with neighbors.

it's the American way.

How fucking stupid are You? Lots of us like the experience of voting and we don't have to wait until we are in line to do our research.

I am surprised that we are not voting online also. However, we can plainly see that voting machines can be quickly and easily hacked by teenagers so.... I think we are a few years away from that.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Some of the things I had to vote on were issues I had never heard of. There are state, county, and city issues that need to be decided. The important ones or the big ones (or the ones that people are spending huge bucks on for ads) we know about, some of the smaller less important ones we do not know about.

There are also people I had to vote for - Who is running for local sheriff, the school board, the state district attorney, etc....

And why can't I study those issues, fill out my sample ballot, and vote in person?

No wonder everyone talks about what a fool you are.

He said "we don't have to wait until we are in line to do our research". Really? So everyone that walks into a voting booth knows all of the things they can vote on in advance?

Here is what I got to vote on...

Prop 1: Issues $4 billion in bonds for housing programs and veterans' home loans
Prop 2: Authorizes state to use revenue from millionaire's tax for $2 billion in bonds for homelessness prevention housing
Prop 3: Issues $8.877 billion in bonds for water-related infrastructure and environmental projects
Prop 4: Issues $1.5 billion in bonds for children's hospitals
Prop 5: Revises process for homebuyers who are age 55 or older or severely disabled to transfer their tax assessments
Prop 6: Repeals 2017's fuel tax and vehicle fee increases and requires public vote on future increases
Prop 7: Authorizes legislature to provide for permanent daylight saving time if federal government allows
Prop 8: Requires dialysis clinics to issue refunds for revenue above a certain amount
Prop 10: Allows local governments to regulate rent on any type of housing
Prop 11: Allow ambulance providers to require workers to remain on call during breaks paid
Prop 12: Bans sale of meat from animals confined in spaces below specific sizes

Do you know how many of those I had heard of before I voted? Three.

Prop 6 is huge here. Californians already pay the highest gas prices in the country because of state taxes, and it seems our governor just decided to add more taxes to our gas without so much as a vote and people are pissed....

I've always heard of 8 and 11, but only because of ads on TV which did zero to change my vote.

Most of these issues have very little importance to me what so ever.

The one thing I felt strongly about wasn't even on the ballot - Prop 9.... Asks government to divide California into three states Proposed ballot measures that were not on a ballot.... Yeah, fuck that.

Then I also had to vote for California Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, Controller, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Commissioner of Insurance, and then "State board of equalization district 1. Those are the ones I didn't have any thoughts about so I had to research them.

How many people do you think just show up to vote and click on boxes because they don't have any clue of what they are voting on? How many people just vote their party line and that's that. That's why I like voting from home, and that's why I like researching things while I vote.

You surely can. If you take the time to do it in advance, and you can remember the twenty people you want to vote for and the 12 or 13 different other things you want to vote on.

The vast majority of people have no idea what is on the ballot until they walk into vote.

You fucking idiot. You live in California, they send you a sample ballot a couple months ahead of time so you can fill it out and bring with you.

Fuck. You are dimwitted.

So, your research is basically the commercials you see on TV, then read up on the other ones as you vote. You must spend hours.

I am afraid to ask how you voted on the propositions.

Old man.... Some of the issues I was well aware of because people are spending a lot money to for ads. Other issues - such as the "Bans sale of meat from animals confined in spaces below specific sizes" - I had not heard of and frankly don't give a shit about.

The ads surely did not influence me. The prop 6 ad I keep seeing tells us about how important infrastructure is and how important it is to our first responders and fuck no, that's bullshit. They are taxing us to death on gas and enough is enough.

Some of the issues I knew about and had already researched, others I wasn't aware of, and yet others I couldn't give a crap about. When there was something I wasn't familiar with I looked it up and researched it.

You damn well know the majority of Americans walk into the booth to vote and had never heard of half of the things they were voting on.

Do you seriously think the average american knows ALL of the issues they are about to vote on, and have researched them all and have made an informed decision? I wonder what percentage of Americans vote based on what ads they've seen on TV.
