Porn industry anecdotes
Share your best anecdote or recollection from the industry over the years.
It was 2001 - just weeks after the 9/11 attacks in NYC. My wife and I had driven from Niagara Falls to Queens, NY to attend the first BondCon convention at Crowne Plaze Hotel across from La Guardia airport. It was originally scheduled to take place in Connecticut, but they chose to re-locate to New York to bring people to the city in an effort to restore some sense of normalcy. During the second night of the convention a small group of us were taking a smoke break outside the front entrance to the hotel. And as we chatted we began noticing camera flashes coming from the windows of literally dozens of rooms in the highrise hotel around us. So many flashes, it was like a stadium rock concert. ![]() We all started joking and laughing about it...all the model shoots taking place in the rooms that night. All the regular hotel guests must've been wondering what in hell was going on. Also that night - we had a very surreal moment. On the other side of the hotel they were hosting a very sombre, low-key firefighter memorial for friends and family of fallen firefighters - a black-tie and gown affair complete with violin players walking amongst the crowd. As the evening wore on, many of the firefighters made their way across the lobby to our BDSM convention and started mingling with many of us producers and models - posing for photos. It was such a strange mix of people for awhile. And later we heard they thanked the convention organizers for choosing to re-locate the event and giving them something to take their minds off the tragedy just across the river. I'll never forget that. Share your anecdote. |

TBH, I've got so many I wouldn't know where to start, and if I started with my 'best ones' they would just sound like a bunch of bullshit. TBH, even as I typed them, I'd probably think I was lying myself...

^^^pretty sure he prefers the human variety
![]() Your memory reminds me of a scene from Lucifer that I enjoy...he's on a murder case and discovers LA is filled with porn stars and gets distracted from his work as all his favs are there on set as they question potential suspects. his eldest brother (God's fav son) asks L why he's so surprised to be in the presence of porn actresses as surely hell (over which L reigned) must be full of them Lucifer looks bemused as he responds "surprisingly not, on account of all the good they do on earth" ![]() really cool post. wasn't sure whether to post this honestly as technically I was doing something illegal at the time but fuck it, the statute of limitations on liability to the club has LONG since passed. plus I'm not naming the club and there are many in downtown to my first job in adult was as a dj in a strip club. I had just turned 16 and as a bday prez from a friend got a wicked fake ID for the usual obvious reasons (opening my own bank account without a parent co-sign, not having older friends harassed if stopped by the cops on my account, voting -I'm kidding...maybe- and wanted to make some real money so I could move out on my own). I loved it. I don't spend much time in life reminiscing as what's to come is much more exciting to me, but damn, was a hella fun time in my life. I looked young (didn't look 18 until I was in my late 20's) but was tall and able to communicate well so nobody raised a red flag on the legitimacy of my very realistic ID. plus I didn't drink at all (let alone at work even if I was so inclined at that time towards the devil's nectar) so at least that particular law wasn't broken/a concern to management. made amazing friends, made a shit ton of cash and was the first and only job I've ever had that was all about music and people. I'd get to know dancers, make them sets to suit their styles and vibes (some being songs they had never heard before but cuz I chose well they picked up the beat immediately always) and got an early taste of 'work really fucking hard, bank and then party til dawn'. so many after work sessions at after hours clubs to dance to exhaustion and/or sunrise and do art and sometimes on mellow nights just talk and stare at the aquariums in the walls being peaceful and quiet together. could just be myself, in places I wouldn't have even known about if not for the peeps I met through that work my first real girlfriend I met at that job as well, my god she was beautiful. a very special time in my life in many ways. did that job for 5 years, was 20 years ago I had to quit as the hours didn't fit my uni schedule. every time I go back to TO I visit, diff talent of course but the same fucking bouncer who has known me for 25 years. He'll outlive us all I swear. Good times. I love this biz and the peeps I've met at every step along the way through working with them. That first experience def got me hooked.

Schooting damsel in distress video. Girl tied up and gagged in the back of a van. Door of van opened. Two girls biked by and saw the tied chick but didnt see the camera. I can tell you: Amsterdam has a highly responsive and heavy armed kidnap- intervention- swat- team able to litterally react in minutes.

But that's a cool intro to the industry. Definitely statute of limitation is long expired these days. I chased after a video editor position at one of Canada's largest adult video distributors about 25 years ago after hearing about it from a few sources. We were livin' in TO at the time and the position was at their head office an hour west of the city. I landed the job based on my experience with Director's Film Co. of Canada. It was quite a departure from the mainstream TV commercial work I'd been involved with prior...but it was a good paycheque and certainly an interesting work environment. We had well-known porn stars visiting our head office and distribution warehouse quite regularly and a few I took out for lunch back in the day. Won't drop names, but you've likely heard of a few. That was the start to my involvement in the adult industry...which eventually lead to bigger and better opportunities - including launching our own company many years later. |

props to the chicas who called the cops not realizing it was a film though, girl code in action! since the Netherlands isn't as puritanical as NA I hope the cops were cool once they realized it wasn't an actual abduction either way, still really fucking funny Quote:
despite attitudes (esp back in the day when everyone wasn't on tubes getting their anonymous fix) where performers are whores and the peeps who shoot are pimps. gets confusing when one does both but yeah, we should have gone for respectable jobs at British Petroleum or Monsanto ![]() I love the freedom as much as the money at this point, most social conventions are inane to me anyways so being outside them feels kinda like home. didn't get back into adult after I left that club for several years but when I did...never looked back those club names bring back memories. you may or may not have mentioned the club I worked at (really don't want to name them as my choices were not their fault) but as a client, Zanz was always my fav club to visit. despite Filmore's having the most flattering lighting known to humans despite being a 'dive' club- I felt like a super model every time I looked in the mirror there and they def had more variety than For Your Eyes or the Rail not sure about the 80's but in the late 90's/early 2000's Zanz was the 'weird club', where the women weren't all blonde with big tits in dresses. no disrespect to those who rocked that look, just not to my taste. give me a skinny chica with moves dancing to Public Enemy in a ripped body stocking spray painted with her own art and black velvet top hat and I'm in heaven. I spent so much money at Zanz on special occasions as a way to start off a night, worth every penny every single time. awesome thread, hope more people contribute I'm out for the weekend, have a wicked one y'all =)

One of my faves was Tony's East in Scarborough since they hosted a lot of big name bands when the peelers weren't dancing. Saw a lot of good groups at Tony's - Headpins, Toronto, Coney Hatch, Lee Aaron. Still have a shot glass from there in my display cabinet in the dining room these days. Latin Quarter had the best dancers in the 80s - mostly Quebec circuit strippers...and some of them were off-the-charts stunning. But the drinks were pricey - not a place you'd want to spend the entire evening unless you were Rockefeller. But by the time I got into the adult industry, the strip clubs had lost their attraction and we eventually stopped going. Lotta good memories and good times, tho. |
