I found a supplement on Amazon that i used to buy in the UK when i lived there. Ordered a bottle to see if it still tastes as good as it use to. Anyway as it takes so long to get here from the UK i decided to see what it would cost to buy 6 bottles at a time.

From Amazon inc shipping 6 bottles cost $79.62

Then i decided to explore getting it direct from the manufacture in the UK

Direct 6 bottles inc shipping cost $57.60

So Amazon is getting $22.02 assuming the manufacture gets the same price for their product as when i purchase direct ?.

Seems to me a great way to make money

Like you, I've noticed some prices on Amazon are a lot more.

I've also noticed price creeping on Amazon where you buy something and if you buy it a couple more times they start slowly raising the price on you. At first it's a fee cents, then a bit over a dollar then a couple dollars. If you stop buying it you'll get a notification a couple months later that it's on sale.... at the original price!

Yes exactly that happened with this supplement, since i placed the order it increased in price by $1.34 in just a few days.

You are assuming Amazon is making that money. Amazon is simply a market place where people/companies sell things. It's not always the cheapest place to buy but rather the market dictates the price because Bezos managed to corral a bunch of stupid people into his own version of wallmart online. The bulk of those people are too stupid to compare prices much less check for lower than the buy box prices on Amazon it's self..

He is rich because he is making a few % on every sell on that platform and there is roughly 26.5 million sales a day.

Amazon it's self is selling directly a very small percentage of that 26 million items per day. The bulk is other companies selling on the Amazon platform.

After talking directly with the company via phone a few hours ago i can confirm in this instance they are indeed making that money, i cannot speak to other items. But i have always shopped around for other sellers even on Amazon as i discovered a long time ago in 1999 when i made my first purchase on Amazon that they are not always the cheapest. Their appeal is the convenience of getting all the crap you don't really need in one place

You idiots. You have to price compare. It's easy to buy from Amazon. But you need to go to multiple sites to find the best price - or shop locally.

Never hurts to price compare - even though Amazon quite often is still the cheapest for a lot of things.

My wife tends to buy a lot of stuff through Amazon - I still like my bricks 'n mortar stores even if it means paying a little more simply because I like to see and hold a product (especially electronics), check the build quality, side-by-side compare, talk to a salesperson, etc.

BestBuy in particular often has company reps from Microsoft or Del, Acer, HP or many other manufacturers in their stores you can talk directly to and ask in-depth tech questions and get very knowledgeable answers. To me that's worth more than saving a few bucks through Amazon.
