I saw her interview yesterday. There was no furniture other than a few tables and broken chairs. She claimed that they just moved in and the cockroaches were there already. They were crawling around the apartment which was dirty.

She spoke well, seemed to care about her five kids and offered no excuse for the cockroaches.

The kids weren’t shown so I don’t know or care about the color of the father

LORAIN, OH (WOIO) - Police in Lorain have arrested a mother after her eight children were found living in a "disgusting" home. The children were smeared with feces and living in a home infested with bedbugs and covered with mold.
According to police, Quinn Washington, 33, was arrested on child endangerment charges on Monday when officers responded to a home in the 800 block of West 18th Street after a maintenance worker, who just finished working on the home next door, told a neighbor the house was "disgusting" so the neighbor called police.
When police arrived, they found eight children living in deplorable conditions. Police say the children were going to the bathroom on the floor. Some kids were found in dirty diapers while others were covered in feces. One young child was found in a closet wearing a diaper that stretched past his knees because it was full of feces.
The house was infested with bedbugs and smelled like rotten milk, according to police. There was also mold covering parts of the home, including inside the refrigerator. Bags of trash were thrown across the living room and kitchen spaces.

All of the children were being supervised by their 13-year-old sister, according to Lorain police, while their mother was at work.
Washington was arrested at home when she returned from work. She was taken to Lorain city jail.
The children have been taken into custody by Children Services.

Yeah but the thing is the teacher who reported her said her kid was wearing the same set if clothes for a week in the clothes had caked-on feces and dirt

At least the mother was lucid on TV and motivated cleaning her place etc. She did not it all seemed like a drug user or anything else she just seems overwhelmed which is the reason most people don't have so many children on limited income... it's difficult.

Five kids and no partner would make anyone feel overwhelmed. She didn’t speak like Welfare trash and she sounded educated. The kids weren’t clean and her empty apartment looked like a refuge for homeless people. No beds or mattresses, no curtains, no furniture that looked like it was from the last two decades.

I felt bad for her and her kids but wondered about the father(s). Does she get any support money or does she have a man to help her?

She was white with bleached hair which costs money. Usually the media focuses on black women only. It was almost like “here is an educated white woman with five kids and cockroaches surrounded them” as if that’s an anomaly in the USA. Poverty isn’t ethnic.

Oh, duh, I just saw the story above. I’d seen it online but didn’t realize it was posted here. She looks like hell with bags under her eyes. Her appearance is poor white trash and the apartment doesn’t help. Yet her manner of speaking shows proper upbringing and she is horrified by her living conditions.

Looks are deceiving.

I’m hoping that someone gets after the landlord to decontaminate the apartment and determine the source. Then social workers need to visit and teach her about dirty clothes, diseases, rancid food and general cleanliness.

Bugs are no excuse not to keep clean and toss old milk and food.

And the truth is it wasn't always that way. if you go back to the 40s, 50s and 60s they were on par with whites in respect to illegitimacy rates. It's when the Dems came in with all the welfare basically enslaving them and convincing them the state could take the place of the father is when shit really went south for them. Back in the 40s and 50s when they starting keeping track of crime rates, blacks were committing crimes at 3-4xs the rate of whites, which isn't good, but it's a far cry from the 12-15xs rate they are now.

That elite high schools such as Stuyvesant no longer boast as many black students as they used to.

In fact, while “ghetto culture” may help to explain the stubborn persistence of a black underclass, there is ample evidence of the progress of black Americans since the 1960s in statistics on poverty rates, educational achievement and household incomes. Gains relative to whites have slowed, but there are still absolute gains. Nor can “ghetto culture” explain the growth in poverty, the decline in marriage, the slowdown in educational achievement or the widening income gap in white America.

As Sowell sees it, this “retrogression” took root because of a virulent multiculturalism, imposed by academics and the media, that now makes it socially and politically unacceptable to criticize any group’s culture. And it is reinforced by an overly generous welfare state that has lulled poor blacks into a permanent state of dependency and sloth — “non-judgmental subsidies of counterproductive behavior,” in his felicitous phrasing.
