The lower court found that the districts were illegally gerrymandered on the basis of race. House Republicans brought a lawsuit to challenge the decision. The Supreme Court ruled that House Republicans didn't have standing to bring the challenge. Therefore, the lower court's decision (that race was improperly used by VA Republicans to rig the state's legislative districts) is upheld Voting will move ahead under a new map that was drawn up at the behest of the lower court, which removed the unfair advantage that Republicans engineered for themselves.
