Question for Windows Guru's

Is there a way that you can "sync" 2 different machines running Windows 10, together?

My better have does all of her work on her laptop at work, then comes home and connects her laptop to her large monitors, hub etc, making for a mess of wires and general pain in the assess. Her desktop computer sits unused except for specific applications only.

Is there a way for her to do her work on her laptop, but then switch instantly to her desktop to continue working?

On Apple Macs you can do this with OS features such as handoff, and services such as iCloud to keep some things in sync. What I'm talking about though is essentially a full copy of the HD on both devices so that even her environment is cloned. If one computer fall-down go-boom, the other computer is ready to take over.

Suggestions?

you can use a local NAS (ie: Synology) and share a folder on both computer. You can then switch when ever you want.
You can then backup you NAS on AWS or any cloud stuff in case problem with your NAS

For officer docs, buy box.com and install the desktop app. Browse and access the files through your default apps and fileexplorer.

Never ever sync your Operating system.

An alternative is AWS workdocs

Thanks for both suggestions, but this isn't quite what I was looking for. Essentially, I think the best way to describe what I need is almost like a RAID setup for 2 computers for perfect redundancy.

What Kind of work is it? What applikations? What budget?

It's possible, but the solution depend on the details and budget. Both redirected profile and rdp to a remote HA endpoint is possible.

I do this from home on Windows... I have two PCs, a Surface laptop, and a Surface pro. During the day I tend to switch from the main PC to the laptop on and off as needed. It's just a simple matter of doing everything in the cloud. I use a lot of Google stuff for email, calendar, and browsing. For bigger files I use Dropbox.

It's nice really. I bought a plane ticket last night on Southwest and a few minutes later it was on my Google calendar.

it is actually not possible with windows what you want - except you work with internet connection on a windows server.
but this will be slower as to have all local.

the one and only way is to have 2 similar laptops where you can easy switch the disc from one to the other.

i have done that before with 2 laptops where i took the DVD player out and placed a disc instead and booted from this disk.
on the other 2 internal discs i had a second windows what could be used for booting as well and a bit other stuff.
there is also a way to run windows on an USB stick but it will also be slower.

to change such a disc is quite easy (same as a stick) but the 2 laptops must be the same because of drivers etc.

It's possible, but it depends on the budget.

You can do everything from redirected folders mapped over SMB3 (therefor streamed) and roaming profiles, and all the way to oldschool robocopy scripts triggered by local audit-events on monitored folders.

.. it depends on files/what kind of work) and budget

Office documents are easy - almost free. But if we are talking NLE video-editing, you gotta go down to blocklevel replication (SMB3 based with low latency)

Possible? yes, but is it worth it when you consider the complexity? hardly for a oneman shop

Leave the laptop connected to the internet and use AnyDesk to Remote access and control the laptop. You can move files back and forth. You can copy on the remote machine and paste locally. Office 365 syncs across machines as does Dropbox / Google Drive.

Switching between instances is nothing more than an alt+tab.
