I remember Alexa used to be king when it comes to determining a website's rank in the world.

I enjoy using Similar web as it gives more information than Alexa, but there is usually a huge discrepancy between the two when it comes to global rankings.

I mean the top 1000 websites or so are generally pretty consistent, but take GFY for example.

Alexa pegs it at around 15,000 in the world, however SimilarWeb says its 199,000ish.

Which do you find to be more accurate when it comes to determining global rank?

Alexa derives their rankings from webmasters who have the Alexa toolbar installed, so results can be highly skewed for sites mainly used by webmasters. How does SimilarWeb track visitors to sites?
