(Serious) Please Critique my intended PC build before I start ordering...

Obviously, this is just the 'box' with the monitor KB/Mouse not included. I have included approximate prices, incase anything jumps out at you that appears wrong, or if there's anything that you feel that I should be doing different? Thanks.

CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor - £333.99

CPU Cooler: "be quiet!" Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler - £70.17

Motherboard: MSI Z390-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Chipset: Intel Z390; Memory Slots: 4 - 16; M.2 Slots: 2 - 4 - £99.59

RAM: Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 - £66.97

Storage: Intel 660p Series 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive - £56.10

Storage: Toshiba P300 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Interface: SATA 6 Gb/s - £66.00

Graphics Card: Zotac GeForce RTX 2080 8 GB Blower Video Card - £599.99

Case: Cooler Master MasterCase H500 ATX Mid Tower Case - £94.79

Power Supply: Corsair TXM Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply - £63.97

Total: £1451.57

What do yah think?

OK parts

I would go up 100Watt on the PSU - 500 is a tad on the low side (it will get to hot, and therefore the fan will run faster -> making more noice) between 650+ and 750 would be good.

I would get better brands for the ram, ssd, hdd (no idea about the videocard) and I am not a big fan of MSI either.... might cost you more but will last longer.

Apart from being (I think) almost double your original budget in your post from last week, it's a good build. Definitely would go Samsung on the SSD's though.

OK so taking the current advice onboard, I;ve made the following changes:

I've upped the power supply to a Corsair RMx (2018) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

The RAM is now: Kingston HyperX Predator 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory

The SSD is now: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME SSD

As for the 2nd drive, Im leaving that as is for now, cause its easy enough to change in the future....

All good?

Bullshit. Their products have been industryleading since the beginning. The major reason other products once in a while top the consumer-tests, are because of the paid listings.

There is a reason why most servers come with an Intel SSD. I own Benchmarkssd.com where I was involved in hardware test for EMEA MSP's and have helped develop AS SSD Benchmark

Good upgrades for sure. Keep in mind that Samsung 970 EVO Plus is Samsung's entry-level NVMe SSD. Nothing wrong with it, but you dont get Kingston or Intel lifetime out of it, due to lower score on total terabytes written over time (TBW), and drive writes per day (DWPD).

You still get 4-5 years of daily use, so it should not be a problem

You might want to consider a motherboard with hardware RAID and a second EVO. Makes a big difference.

Thanks, but I think I'm about at my limit now I'm still gonna be spending 500 on a monitor and prob another few hundred on accessories and stuff I dont realise I need... Plus, it's not like years ago, when Id actually be making money from using my computer... So it's never gonna earn itself back, if you get me

As such I gotta stop somewhere, and I think this should do me for at least the near future. Its got the fast processor and boot drive, plus its got 16GB ram I can easily turn into 32 if needed, and I can't really justify spending more than 600 on the graphics card, So it should be good enough as is...

As long as there were no GLARING errors... That's what matters. After all, its my first time back in the PC world after over ten years on a mac, so baby steps lol

You may want to drop the extra $20 for a 1000 watt power supply. I underestimated this on my build. Started with a 550, had to replace it with a 750, and when that wasn't enough, 1000.

I... Haven't built a computer since 2004 or so. Last time I did it was nothing but problems. Now I just order them from a site. Just pick the best they have and pay for it.

For PCs I like Alienware because I am a gamer. My 2009 Alienware is still running, but I have a newer one now. And a few laptops.

It looks like one hell of a nice setup!

You will have to let us know how it runs after you get it set up and running.

Yes, thankyou, I have been using that site along with another similar one (that I honestly cunt remember the name of offhand) but it's linked to reddit and I've been reading reddit a lot as well... Plus a lot of youtube stuff like linus tech tips and JayzTwoCents ave been helpful Prob getting a Samsung CJG5 32 inch curved UHD to go with it, but Im waiting to get the desk built in the bay window here I am gonna use it before I start ordering, cause then I'll have an area to keep the parts until they all arrive and a place to build it too

I'll document the entire build in photos and no doubt be asking for advice at some point in the build

You need more RGB
I am not a fan of blower GPUs, keep things hotter than with 2/3 fan

No! I dont like RGB at all... Infact I actually chosen the MB as its a 'Non Gamer / Non RGB' Board...

Watch the first minute of this review to see my logic

As for the RGB fans in the front of the case, I won't even plug the illumination part in... I cunt stand all those extra unnesscaeray lights.

The build so far is 100% fit for purpose, in my opinion.

The main thing I want, is to be able to play the original 1979 Space Invaders rom via MAME using the keyboard arrow keys for left and right and the space to fire. I might even play Galaga... So why the fancy graphics card? Easy...

I'm gonna be mining bitcoin on it That's also why I got the ultra fast boot disc SSD drive so I can mine really fast, and the 3TB second drive is so that I've got plenty of space to store all the bitcoins that I've mined...

The curved monitor is so as I can fit a webcam to it, for use as a mirror. Being curved, it should make me look nice and thin, just like a mirror in a funhouse...

I think Im pretty good to go now and wont be dissapointed

I do actually have one genuine question if someone could help me out?

It might seem a little silly, but theres no way really for me to know. When you order all the parts Ive listed, do they come with all the connectors and cables and stuff Im gonna need?

I'd assume that they do, however sometimes in a build video on youtube I see a guy saying something like - 'Yeah, so I got me these braided white cable set from corsair, cause I want it to fit with the aesthetic of the machine...'

But does he mean that he bought the white set because he wanted it to look pretty, or did he buy the set because he needed to buy a set of cables anyway, and he just decided to go for the fancy ones?

usually the power supply and the mainboard come with a ton of cables. look at what you have there first before you go buy any

and I'd do 32 gb Ram

And i have this monitor - best i ever bought: https://www.benq.com/en/monitor/gaming/ex3501r.html

May well do in the future - It's easy enough to grab it from amazon on prime next day delivery etc... Thing is this is the basic parts to build a working bootable computer - Additions like extra ram can easily come later

Looks really nice, but a little large and a little pricey for my needs. Plus it has freesync built in, and I will not be using AMD so Id be paying for something that I didn't need. I really think Im going for this one at half the price

2070 Super is the 2080 for a little bit less money, if I'm not mistaken.

I built three recently with the Cooler Master case. I really like it.

You don't need 32gb of ram for gaming.

Also, modular power supply over semi modular. Keeps things neat.

I made a few changes half way down this thread to the original build specs, including the power supply. I've gone fully modular - That's what you mean, yes?

Fuck it - I've gone with this one - Hits the sweet spot on price and features. It's not full 4K but its not just hd either, and it has the very fast refresh rate. Plus, it wasn't soooo expensive that I'll feel guilty if I upgrade in a years time

Don't skimp on the power supply, as feeding clean and stable power is vital to the performance of other components. Full modular will allow you to only use the cables you need, improving airflow and lowering temps in the box. I use and recommend Seasonic.

For a case, you should consider using aluminum over steel, as it has better heat dissipation and aesthetics. Anything that helps reduce the temps inside the box will add longevity to the electronic components inside - CPU, motherboard, video cards, SSDs, HDDs, RAM, power supply, DVD drives, etc. I use and recommend Lian Li.

The shitty carpet its standing on, is the shitty carpet that should be under my new desk...

As such, Im putting all my other ordering on hold now until hes done the desk for me. That way I've at least got something to build it on...
