Which Graphics card? I'm confused....

MSI RTX 2080 SUPER 8GB VENTUS OC

OR

ASUS RTX 2080 SUPER 8GB ROG STRIX GAMING

???

Ignoring costs etc, which of these 2 would you put in your system?

Thanks - Hopefully PC will be fully decided upon soon and I'll stop asking comparison / recommendation questions... ATM, Im kinda going round in circles with decisions and reviews. Please don't further confuse me by suggesting something different...Just vote - Thanks

Between these two cards the Asus for sure. Better quality, quieter and slightly higher clock.

You need more than just "It's ASUS, go with that one"...
MSI benchmarks a little better than ASUS, just sayin'.. Just barely, tho.

Every manufacturer making cards makes them slightly different even when the series is the same, sometimes X company makes them better, sometimes the card will have better cooling or more ports, clock speed alone and no other info doesn't mean everything, etc. You have to look at everything when comparing. Not doing that and just going with the common brand will sometimes piss you off with your choice.

Edit: My bad, I was looking at the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio and not the Ventus, but still. :

You are absolutely correct. Thing is, when I started this PC build, it was really fun and exciting, and now I'm a few weeks in, deciding on the minutia, the a vs b vs c when its all to do with 'scores' and 'points' and miniscule differences that only show up under laboratory conditions etc etc...

The fun kinda goes out of it and I'm getting fed up with watching youtube videos and reading result schore charts etc...

Anyway, nearly done now - Should be all sorted by this time next week. My budgets already gone through the fucking roof...

MSI and ASUS are shit. Buy ZOTAC or Gigabyte. Gigabyte use high quality capacitors. And they sure are reliable - tested.

I had several pieces of hardweare from MSI and Asus.. all shit. Never again.

Yeah, I've had good luck in the past with Gigabyte.

I was going to go with a Gigabyte GeForce® RTX 2080 SUPER™ WINDFORCE OC 8G but decided against it as all the reviews were for the 'gaming' variant and the one I did manage to find for it was like this...

So I decided against it...

One other thing to consider if you are a Brit is the warranty situation for those various brands.

There were a bunch of DDR failures on the 2070 + 2080 that didn't show immediately.

I have a Gigabyte RTX 2070 and it's fine so far after about 6 months.

Fir play - Nearly all of it is coming from amazon, so I have their guarantee, and I'll make sure to register all the individual items at the respective websites on the day of the build

Or just pick one randomly and get lucky. If it doesn't work as well as you wanted, spare parts..

Depending on the layout of your box, the longer video cards may not fit. I'd advise checking measurements and take into account extra space for cable connections.

You originally said you weren't gaming. If you aren't gaming and are already orverbudget, why are you spending extra money buying a gaming card?

You won't see enough of a difference for it to matter all that much.

I have a rendering farm with 16 GPUs so I know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, I'm cool for that - All part of the meticulous research I was complaining about earlier in the thread lol

Its kinda progressed more to a matter of future proofing. I'm coming from (and still keeping) an iMac, which is 10 years old and never was that powerful. Couldn't play a game on it even if I wanted to... So this PC is gonna be for fun. Dunno what Im gonna use it for exactly just yet, but when I do think that I want to do something with it - Play the latest game, plug in a VR headset, etc etc, at least I'm gonna be able to do it.

Even with my hobby of retro gaming, which is traditionally done on underpowered equipment like raspberry pies etc, I constantly keep running into things that I Can't quite do properly, because the performance isn't quite there...

With this new PC whatever I decide to do, it should be capable Thats why Im getting a gaming keyboard and mouse etc... I may only ever use it as a normal keyboard and mouse, but if I fire up a game to play, at least I've got the proper equipment to play with. I won't be fumbling around on an apple keyboard etc... Might even get one of those logitech wheel and pedal thingys for driving games as well... The poosibilitys are endless

If you can still get a 1080ti for the same price, I'd take that over the regular 2080

i7 is not for gaming. Intel i5 or i9 is for gaming or Ryzen with AMD.

and you're spending $700 on a graphics card which you don't need just to play games.. A $200 - $300 card is more than enough..

This will run any game on Ultra settings.
