Idiots in Switzerland have implemented a $25/hr min wage

https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/geneva-...orld-1.5132165

If a higher minimum wage was the solution to poverty then they should have adopted at least a $1k/hour minimum wage.

That way everyone would have a 2 week running chance to enjoy the wealth before inflation makes a box of cookies costs $500 and a bag of milk $200

You forget that not every country is printing money in the way the US do. You should know what inflation is.
I mean the Franken are strong and it doesn't matter if a milk cost for you 200$, or 1000000 Yen.

Swizerland is doing a lot of things right - nobody is closer to a direct democracy.

Raising the minimum wage is bad monetary policy in any type of economy.

As for democracy.. meh... I would gladly wipe my ass on the entire concept.

It's a rich country that wants nothing to do with Europe.

I agree with you.

I too was in Switzerland, and found it to be very expensive. My first taste of Switzerland was 30 + years ago when I a teenager, arriving to the central train station. I saw a McDonalds menu board, and a Big Mac Combo was about 12-13 CHF. Visiting a basic family style restaurant, a dinner plate of grilled chicken with pommes frites (french fries) was approximately 25 CHF, and the coffee was another 5 CHF. My stop at a market costed me another 100 CHF, and I walked out with two bags containing mostly dry pasta, some bottled water, vegetables, a kilo of meat, etc.

Why I write this? It was damn expensive, even on my salary, and learned to cross the border to purchase most items outside of Switzerland. And therefore cannot imagine minimum wage being less than 20-25 hourly. From my own professional experience, I found the Germans, Austrians and Swiss to be efficient, hard working people. They always got the work done on time (if not sooner) and with little to no mistakes.

And as a German I can say you Switzerland is one level over us. You can compare it good with Poland. What Poland is for us, that is Germany for Switzerland. We take cheap workers from Poland, they take cheap workers from Germany.

But hey, it's no surprise for a small country where the whole world parks the money in.

Any type of gov't price control, whether it's rent control or price-of-labor (minimum wage) is not good in the long run.

Basic economics.

That's pretty stupid. A minimum wage is important to fight wage dumping. And in this fight workers from poor countries always win when they just come here to work and don't really make a living here and build a future with a family.

As Bartender I know there jobs taken for 4-5 €/h in gastronomia before the min wage laws. No German can live from that. But someone from East-Europe who just came here to work and sleep and go back in their country can do it. A min wage is important to keep your own people in the jobs - especially in the EU where many countries with different wealth can travel and work without any problems in the whole EU.

And we see these 100% capitalism counties like the USA - we laughing and crying when we see people have to pay for going to the hospital or want study lol

I'm fairly certain you meant.. "letting"

It's important to let people to talk about things that may affect them directly. If a $25 minimum wage was implemented in PA... it would put 70% of business out of business. That's 50K/year salary for anyone... it's crazy.

I'm interested to see how this plays out in Switzerland. If it works, it might catch on in the states. The more people make, the more they spend. It's for certain, low wages don't do a thing for the economy. Capitalism leavened with a dash of socialism is a recipe for success.

Goodness me you are thick.

1992 Swiss referendum for complete EU membership ended a very narrow 50.3% against 49.7% in favour but they voted in FAVOUR of joining Europe's Schengen treaty.

This year they voted again at 62% to keep free movement with the EU

Hardly "nothing to do with" is it?

Are we living on the same planet? Your view is short and simple. When u feel humans are still animals (u too), then keep thinking the Darwin way. I'm glad people like you have nothing to decide for others.

You would be surprised at what I have the power to decide.

eg: The bullshit lockdowns started and I went looking for ways to get every cent of our money and business out of the reach of the government. Also, the moment we were allowed to travel we physically left too.

The end result is that we went from being a tax paying business to a kiss my ass lifestyle. So the government can no longer penalize us for our success! I bet that we're not the only company to have fled the bullshit.

High minimum wage is favored by those with a poor understanding of economics (aka most people).

Bad side effects:
> increased unemployment
> robots cheaper than people taking your job
> creates disincentives to goto college or get more education
> high prices
> some businesses become economically inviable - more unemployment

wow i wouldn't have guessed that... now you have no excuse for not understanding why they did it...

The first thing you should have considered was the avg income of the nation.

If they did the same in canada or the us i would actually have agreed with you. but that doesn't suit your pathetically obvious political slant on this does it?

find a new hobby, you truly suck at this.

oh boy, you are so naive.
you Germans are so naive after losing (thank god) ww2.
The point is that, the world is ruled by the most ruthless psychopatic and sociopathic individuals out there.
They are ruthless, and thats why they are on the top. Not all of "them" of course, but...
CEOs of corporations, big companies, top military guys, top government guys...
In the most radical form, they dont mind killing hundreds, thousands or millions of people to achieve their goals.
Nothing changes in the history.

Before it was world wars, now it is "pandemic"...sorry for the slight off topic.

LOL ether you've to really REALLY good in your profession and very specialised to earn a good amount for living or the worker with most knowledge for the most minimum wage will get the work (the more general job types).

And seems like you're from the United States of Hyporisy ... well maybe you should run out of biz to see how it is to be homeless and where no state gives you at least a flat and some money, so you don't starve to death.

Ah, another Ami :P
1: More money means, as already mentioned, more to spend. Less money less to spend... businesses can't survive without people spending money, very simple.

2: If a robot or a machine can do your job, you are doing a simple dumb job, because you're dumb and have no skill.

3: The need to go to college is how good the general education is.
Besides: If everyone have the most highest degree, the degree is literally useless. Because you still need grunt workers and CEO's can simply hire the bachelor/master/engineer who'll do the job or the most minimal money.

4: Who says that with low wages prices, exception basic food and needs maybe, will be low, too? Basically everything becomes luxury.

5: Global players already make life hard for small brick and mortar stores. F. ex.: Amazon for B2C retail.

We need politicians who understand business not live in a dream world like voak people do. Unfortunately, most politician have never ever faced a financial problem in their life. Hence, they can't understand what common people feel.

1. Increase the minimum wage and you destroy small businesses which are the economic backbone of a nation.

2. Increase the minimum wage and you increase inflation. At $25 an hour you'll quickly have prices that reflect that salary.

Get rid of minimum wage and small businesses will flourish and the prices will fall accordingly.
