Game Downloads... The Greatest?

More and more you see new systems coming without a CD drive and going purely digital.

Good idea?

Maybe for the game companies... but for the consumer, other than convenience of getting a game immediately... what other benefit is there for the consumer?

1, Cannot return the games very easily...
2, Once you beat the game you are stuck with it, cannot trade it in for another.
3, Cannot share with friends.
4, You still pay sales tax on an item you can never hold. (remember when electronic downloads were free of taxes??)

Personally, I would rather have a shelf of games that I actually own and can sell off or trade it when I am done with it.

Sorry... little rant this morning... 1st time I ever paid full price for a game... beat it within the month and now stuck with it. Wasted 120.00!!! Great game though! AC Valhalla... if you have not tried it... it's a blast. Easy, but a blast.

Up until about a year ago I always bought game discs until I got a PS4. Since then, the drive has only been used for 1 game - Just dance which was bought at Christmas.
Several years ago I would trade games in but recently I took like 10 games in and was offered like a dollar for them all.
Kind of glad I don't have to bother with that now.

Also, games take up space and clutter. I subscribed to PS Now which means I can play 100's of games instantly. It's a streaming service a bit like Netflix.

So, I don't really mind.

Games dont fit on the discs anymore though do they? I have not used a console for decades, but I was under the assumption that the game disk worked much like a 'physical' steam key, meaning when you put the game disk in the console, it would download the game?

anyway, not sure...

The price you paid gave you a month's worth of entertainment and digital delivery saved you a trip to the store. It certainly doesn't seem like your money went to waste. Your time on the other hand... ;)

Don't resist progress.

Yup you could take a shitload of games and get next to nothing in return for them. Best bet was always just to list on eBay, but even that isn't ideal so.

I will be getting the PS5 digital only version. Whenever the hell that will be though i have no idea. I still don't personally know anyone who has managed to get one...

Amazon saves me a trip to the store too... your point?

My point is, I spent all this money, beat the game too quickly and now stuck.... Newer game, cannot even give it to a friend now that I don't need it anymore.

Touching on the post of another... Yes, I agree... Game stores don't give as much as they use to... newer games bring a higher value... but when you have mega corps pushing out the mom and pop game stores... that kinda fuck the gamer too.

We had a wonderful game store here in Minneapolis... had all systems back to the atari's... massive game collection... pushed out of business by game stop. Such a shame.

So now... you have over 100's games you have collected over the years. What happens when you die? They are all connected to a personal account... Can you pass them on in your will? Pass them to your kids, grand kids? Or does ALL that money just get pissed away?

Remember - Convenience is just another word for LAZY!

"Pushed out of business by Gamestop". How do you figure? Did Gamestop go burn the store down? Or did they offer a better option for more / most consumers thus the other store lost market share? I never understood this silly line of thought. If you can't compete, that's on you; not the company who outsmarted you.

I prefer digital anyway. Discs just take up space, and if my gaming friends want a game but can't afford it, I'm the king of gifting shit on Steam anyway.

I haven't bought an actual physical disc game since the PS2.
