Tipping?

Are you a good tipper?

Do you tip everywhere that asks you for a gratuity?

Do you over tip? If so, is it to be generous to the person you are tipping, or to show off to your friends? (I know someone like that... lol).

It seems everywhere you go, and now more and more delivery services are wanting, or even worse, automatically adding a tip to the bill.

Tipping in a restaurant, to an adult trying to support a family on min wage, that comes to your table, takes your order, brings the food to your table then has the table cleared for you... sure, that deserves a tip.

The pimple faces kid standing at the register at Starbucks, where you wait in line for your order to be taken, wait for your beverage then find a seat IMO is not tip worthy.

Grocery delivery is another... is it because it's food they feel they deserve a tip? You are paying for the service/delivery.... I mean do you tip Amazon every time they bring your FREE delivery? or UPS, FedEX?

And for some to automatically add in a tip based on the amount you spend and NOT the quality of the service that is being performed seems a bit entitled.

For me... when I go out to eat, I start with a base of 20%, the tip will go up or down based on the service. As for others... if the shopper does not send me 15-20 texts when they are doing my shopping, even though paying for the service... I will tip, mostly because if I don't I will hear about it for days from my fiancee. But I wait till the end to adjust so they don't fuck with my food

This thread will not end well. So many people here don't believe in tipping.

I always tip decently. But I haven't been to a sit-down restaurant since Feb 2020. I would say I tipped 15-20%. If the service wasn't great then 10-12%. Also, if the girl was hot and flirting with me I might tip over 25%

Back when I went to bars I way over-tipped (up to 50%) because I knew that if I did they would always make sure I didn't have to wait for a drink.

I don't live in an area where I can get deliveries.

I put myself through college waiting tables and bartending, so yes, I tip. Usually around 20% for acceptable service - going up or down from there as necessary.

Coffee shop, I'll tip a buck for my coffee.

Bellhops, a dollar a bag.

I haven't done pizza delivery in forever, but I tipped around 15%.

Uber, I go with the middle option.

Hotel maid service is the one that always tripped me up. I think $2-3 per night.

Only for exceptional service. But I also only go to countries that make sure staff gets paid for their job to begin with. So tipping is optional...

LOL - I remember being in Paris and leaving a good tip in a bar around the corner from the hotel I was staying. Another patron tried to make me take back the money saying they didn't do that there. I said "I know, but let's come back tomorrow and see who gets served first."

It's up to you really and how generous you want to be.
It's important if you go to the same restaurants or bars, use the same delivery service, you want them to service you at their best.

I love tipping. I mean I absolutely LOVE it.

Now, I'm no fancy chick, so I don't eat at very expensive places usually...so that may be why I am so gracious with my tipping.

There really is nothing I love more than to know I made someone's day with a little more than they are used to.

An example is, if I eat at Denny's and the bill is 50 I will tip 30. (never know what's a good tip to other people)

They don't have IHOP in Location: Dreamland?

But yes I knew there was a reason why I love you.

But also I always tip more if it's a party of more than 4 or if you require them to serve you more than normal

Always paying in restaurants or cafe's if service was at middle or higher level. Food couriers also deserve some tips I think, if food was delivered carefully.

j/k

I tip anyone who provides a service 20-25%. Takeout depends on the venue, whether the food/drink was assembled or just handed over, and my mood.

I also think tipping sucks and am relieved when I am in countries that don't "require" it.

You don't have a family? Kids, wife, parents?

We had a 126.00 bill the other night there. Four teen girls, dinner, and snookies add up.

We do have an IHop, but I don't love IHOP to be honest. Texas roadhouse and Denny's are my favs.

Why?

Because I can eat their beef (nachos at Denny's) and steak at texas roadhouse and not have to immediately shit as I do when I eat beef at other places.

I'm a good tipper. My favorite restaurants that I go to i will tip up to 30-40%. Same thing with grubhub/doordash. I tip the fuck out of those guys. I text them and tell them how much i'm tipping them and tip them in cash. I really don't want them fucking with my food.

Why tip only the bartenders? I've never understood it. At least that's what most of the people are doing, right? Why not tip someone at the electronics store for being extremely helpful and trying hard, etc. Another thing, why tip by default? Not every waiter is as good as the next guy. Life is hard.

because the people at the electronics store are already paid a living wage and if they have done the job for years and are good are being paid a better wage than an entry-level person

If you are a counter person that performs no electronic work, they are probably not paid that well.

As for the grocery shoppers that automatically add a tip... they probably get a decent wage. Although because it's a separate company, I am sure they are not union as the grocery workers are.

I think the best example for what I mean would be Amazon. Say you have a prime membership... you are in a way, paying for that free shipping. Now along come Fresh... another membership fee to avoid delivery fees... on top of the prime membership...

Ok, so you shop Amazon say a couple times a week... get those packages in a day or two... do you tip that driver when he makes those drops?

Now you have Fresh... they deliver within a few hours... but now it's food and there is a place to tip.

Same company, two people making deliveries... yet only one do we tip.... or feel an obligation to tip.

How is this any different? You place an order, someone fills that order, someone delivers that order... the only difference is one is food.

Just part of the social brainwashing we are subjected to.

The difference is probably about 8.00 an hour. Servers and bartenders make like 2.00 an hour.

That's why we tip them.

Always tip. If you give me anything more than "slightly above average service" I will over tip. If you give me average service I'll give you an average tip.

Actually, they don't. At least at Denny's. I spoke with the night manager when I was there (since she was the only one working other than cook) and she specifically said it's 2.00 an hour.

It may vary by state, but when I waited tables and bartended it was $2.13/hour. I actually worked a lot of hours off the clock because I was more interested in the tips than the hourly pay.

Also, servers typically have to tip out to hostesses, busboys, bartenders, and sometimes even kitchen staff. Usually it's based off sales, so if a table stiffs them the server actually loses money.

I am an over tipper.

My mother worked as a waitress and I got my allowance in ones and quarters.

So it began as a way to put a smile on some hard working woman's face. But then I realized I got better service than those around me. So I began to tip more and more.

Now I tip the valet $10-$20 and he parks my car right at the hotel/casino entrance. Then tells the bell desk they have a VIP. They grab my luggage and take me to the VIP check-in. I then pass that person a $100 bill. And they upgrade my room for the entire stay for "free" which makes out to be $500 or so off and my room is spectacular as far as the view goes. Some will also give me a card to show that basically says, give this man anything he wants. So I didn't make a reservation to eat and the line is around the corner. No problem, sir, we have your table ready for you.

At bars I might even tip the bouncers. Cannot tell you how many times that has come in handy. Lol

Maids always make sure I have everything I need proactively. Mainly because if I see them in the hallway I might give them $20 each. Suddenly they do clean your room even with covid-19 restrictions. And leave me extra water or other drinks if it's a casino. Towels like a mofo.

Door Dash on a Friday or Saturday night at 8pm? Over tip. Suddenly the 1 1/2 to 2 hour wait cuts down to 40 minutes. Same with groceries. Particularly when you are on the cusp of the end of the night and your order might get pushed into the next morning.

My 420 delivery people always bring me extra goodies.

Every place I eat at knows my entire families orders and treats us like royalty.

Local Lyft drivers learn my habits so that they will be starting their shift at the same time I'm going to dinner or a movie, or both so they begin the night with a great ride. Many that stay local work it out to also pick me up.

Tipping is a time saver and time is money.

I tip only when I'm in good mood or the service is excellent.
From 5 to 15 %.
It happens maybe 1-2 times out of 10.

Also, restaurants in many countries already include "10 % service fee", when it happens, I don't tip.
and actually, I avoid that kind of places, lol
