:stop What do you think is the best age to win the lottery?

It's fairly well-known that many huge lottery jackpot winners' lives get destroyed because they win the lottery. They become a target for drug dealers, hookers, swindlers, thieves etc.. Even just having to deal with the jealousy and envy from your own family can take its toll on you.

So what age do you think would be the best to come into a large amount of cash unexpectedly?

If you're too young, say in your 20s, you would probably be more likely spend the money extremely foolishly trying to impress people without making sound investments and be broke within a few years.

If you're too old, say your 80s, obviously you won't have much time to enjoy the money and lifestyle that comes with your new found wealth.

I'm thinking the best age would be around 40 to have a good balance of responsibility and being able to appreciate the money after not having it for quite a while. After all, there is a saying "life begins at 40".

I have a feeling most 25 year olds would still say 25 is old enough to be mature enough to handle it.

I guess the reason I'm making this thread is to feel better about turning 40 in 5 weeks.

I don't think age plays a major role in how you handle your money, especially when it's won, that's a slippery slope. You can either be dumb and brag about it, or you can lay low and act like nothing major happened.

Personally, I wouldn't tell anybody that I've won so much money, my wife would know and that's about it. Then I'd continue working, and go on with my life, use a bit of that money to build up a business or boost existing ones so they can act as a decoy for my newfound wealth.

IMO, you can be 20, 30, 40, even 50, and it still wouldn't matter if you're careless.

I actually know of a guy that won millions, and I know because his son bragged about it while drunk, the news spread like wildfire. They moved shortly after and broke all connections to keep safe.

Money ruins everything, but only if people around you know how much you have.

Age doesn't matter at all. Everything depends on the will of Allah, Jesus, Buddha, the supreme programmer, chance, luck, stars, etc.

Someone in my family won over £400,000 in 1987 on the soccer pools. They totally blew the money. I always say people will treat you differently if you win the lottery or made money in business. Lottery winners get treated like a meal ticket.

On Youtube there's plenty of Lottery documentary's & interviews.

Hit the Jackpot here in the UK & you can claim money anonymously. Personally I wouldn't tell the family.

Excellent question - if you win the lottery (unless it's tax free) then your yearly income increases as does your tax bracket.. so you're screwed the following years .. that being said I am going to say

20 to 30 - to young - to dumb - not willing to invest in future and will get plowed over by tax man and everyone begging for cash not to mention your need to show off and entitlement. You don't know what it's like being a senior living off of what the government gives you or your pension running out... so whatever you buy will be gone

30 to 40 - likelihood you've either gotten married or bought a house either way you're wanting to talk to a good accountant so as to save the money and make it work for you in the future. Not always smart to pay everything off and definitely don't quit work. Take some - enjoy a trip etc. but store it away from tax hungry government oh - and best advice.. SHUT THE FUCK UP!! you'll get everyone coming out of the woodworks begging for money to help

50 to 60 - still a good age to win it but you're now more desperate to pay off stuff and before you get to old want to spend it on completing this new bucket list you've created while waiting for the check to show up. If you have kids etc then you'll want to again put it away to make money for you in future when you retire

60 and above - congrats and like Meatloaf sung about "all revved up with no place to go". Sure you can enjoy a mini vacation and make your house flat to avoid future wheelchair ramps but now it's more of are you prepared to give it to your kids and start trust funds. You're still going to get hit hard by tax man so use the money wisely with good accountant so you can have something later on to afford your prescriptions and surgeries.

The BEST age would have been the age I was yesterday, or alternatively, the age I am tomorrow.

40 is still young mentally and spiritually and emotionally believe it or not...

Put the winnings in the name of a trust (state rules vary), that way no one knows your name. From there, talk to an accountant and don't be a moron.

Yeah, I would expect this number to be lower for women than men. Women reach their prime years and fade out faster than men.

The older the better. The older you are the more responsible you are. If you get it when you are in your twenties you will blow it on cars and vacations and crap you don't need. If you get it when you are in your fifties you will be able to retire properly and live out the rest of your life not having to worry about money.

Of course it does. With age comes knowledge. You also have a much different perspective on life as you get older. I mean, you will have some people that are irresponsible in their youth and are still fuckus when they get older, but generally speaking most people that age do gain some wisdom.
