Any good new movies for teenage kids?

My boy wants to do a family movie night on Sunday, are there any recently new movie releases that would be suitable for a teenager (17) and a child aged 9 to watch as a family?

We have all the streaming services.

Please dont suggest anything with The Rock in it, his voice makes me want to slit my wrist with a dull knife when he talks.

Sorry to be obvious, but if you haven't already seen them all, try a Pixar. I haven't seen Luca, the most recent, but even an average Pixar is usually better than most stuff.

Or if you haven't seen Paddington, try that. It's not recent, but you may not have heard of it or written it off as standard kids movie trash. Like Pixar, not quite as good as everyone says, but still worth watching. Likewise Paddington 2.

(Holy shit, I thought Paddington was 2019 or 2017 but it's from 2014. That's depressing. I'll have to watch it again now to cheer myself up.)

If you can do it over a few Sundays, "Raising Dion" is a good series - The kid's next door who are pretty much the same ages as yours (8 and 16) like it - They even got me into it...

The thread isn't about what you happen to want to watch, which doesn't matter to anyone, so why not try understanding the point of the thread: He's asking for a new movie for family viewing suitable for a 9 year old.

If a film is suitable for a 9 year old it's obviously safe for older people, so your baseline for content is obviously what's suitable for the 9 year old.

You've suggested a 6/10 violent R-rated action film, a 6/10 13+ horror movie and a 6/10 Tom Hanks relic from the 1980s, while writing off some of the most highly acclaimed family movies of the modern era. (If anything, I think adults are into Pixar and Paddington even more than kids.)

LOL they might be if the year was 1989, but in a "good new movies for a 9 y/o" thread from that year you'd presumably be going "hell no" and instead recommending the latest from Charlie Chaplin and Fatty Arbuckle.

How is it even possible a movie directed by Tobe Hooper, written by Dan O'Bannon and starring Karen Black and Louise Fletcher can be 5/10?

A: It's from Cannon.

IIRC they're the ones who made loads of Bronson movies when he was about 85. And to be fair, at least some are pretty good/terrible fun.

They also made Lifeforce, a film with a cult following but I remember as being quite boring, considering it features an attractive French space vampire wandering around Britain completely naked, which seems impossible to fuck up.

This excellent page about Lifeforce makes it sound a lot better than it is:
Blake: There is, of course, a very fragile and complex dynamic to every movie - millions of factors, actors, story elements, etc. - but in your opinion what was it about this movie that didn't work?

Calum: Selling a summer film on a naked woman with big breasts destroying London was always going to be a hard sell.

https://www.slashfilm.com/541076/lif...-oral-history/
They apparently made about 90% of everything on video rental shelves in the 80s:
