Do you like/dislike a control panel for hosting?
On the one hand, a control panel can slow the server down, but, on the other hand, in-house mid-range tech development goes more smoothly when minor needs do not necessitate opening a ticket and waiting for a response.
Which do you prefer for your hosting -- control panel or no control panel? |

Control panel (DA or cPanel) always for me. I use managed hosting services but I don't want to contact the host over tasks that I can do myself via control panel.

Mostly using console , tho i have webmin as backup option, in case SSH server goes bananas for whatever reason so it can be fixed over it. Once i also had one shared hosting account which i used for nothing else but for e-mail with direct admin since setting e-mail over console is pain in the ass. WHM/Cpanel i used on beginning , but got tired of it because it is bloated and also very insecure.

For my PBN, some of my servers have a control panel. WP CLI is fine, though.
My money sites don't, though. Waste of resources. When your hosting bills are mid $xx,xxx, min maxing becomes a bit more important. ![]() |

A control panel does not slow a server down the couple of mb of ram used does not mater unless your running shitty little 2gb ram vps’s cpu usage of modern control panels is almost nothing.
Control panels just make life easier sure you can do without but why?

Direct admin works really good on crappy servers. They don't let you unzip but many workarounds for that.

I haven't had control panel installed on servers in a couple of years but it does make things easier at times.

Still using cPanel for the foreseeable.
I do use CLI for a lot of server administration but that sometimes requires me googling to find the commands, which is prone to disaster. So, until I feel confident I have the knowledge & experience, I don't mind paying the couple of quid it costs for cPanel Licences.

For those with experience in cPanel
Is it still necessary managed servers at all If I can use cPanel to do basically everything these days? Asking this because I saw a REALLY Powerful server for $230 unmanaged with cPanel (6 cores / 12 threads E-2286G, 32 GB, 2 x 960 GB SSD) |
