The Future Of TV from 2006
From a UK Kids show, we are just on the cusp of HD ! Plus it describes the connection between TV and your computer that should happen in the future. Takeaways: What they get wrong? One word missing is 'Streaming' - In 2006 everything would have to be downloaded in the future... What they get right? At the end, they are all sat in the same room, fixated by their own individual devices... Note that there are NO Smart Phones... The iPhone wont be released for another year !!! |

Smart phones were around long before the iphone. Nokia had a good one. And even in the 80's we had pda's, that were basically smart phones we know of today, but with no mobile phone capability. We had such as Psion, palm and so on. If you had the cash they had the Seiko UC-2000.

Nokia 9210 was one of the first smart phones.
The clever thing iphone did was have the app store, as this meant cheap or free apps and a huge amount of them. That was the reason I suspect iphone became very popular.

I was automatically parsing my Statsremote data csv and uploading text based stats that I could check while I was out on my wap phones like the Motorola L7 a few years before the Iphone came out.

Yeah, to clarify what I meant re 'iPhone' - Sure there were 'Smart Phones' before the iPhone, and also PDAs running windows CE and plenty of devices that had the part functionality of the phone, but I am simply referring to the ubiquitousness of iPhone and similar android devices.
If I made a show these days that showed four people, all watching a different show on a 'personal device' - If I wasn't using 'Smartphones' (or tablets) to stage it, it would simply look wrong. What I really meant was that it was interesting to see 'Mainstream Tech' that nearly everybody had (in the UK at least) just before EVERYTHING moved onto the mobile phone platform - A platform that wasn't really as 'everywhere' as it is today, in the form its in... I remember browsing yahoo while sat on the toilet, on a TINY little screen of my wifes phone in 2001? But I certainly wouldn't have thought of trying to watch TV on it ! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
