I felt it is not as good as the original Russian version.

I never read this boring crap. But fun aside, Russian is a much more expressive language, where a single word (say a verb) usually has an infinite number of forms describing the actor (he/she, you/they, me). These forms describe the time and even the situation. Every noun has a gender. The order of words in a sentence is arbitrary and may change the context, nature and mood of the sentence. Therefore, there are no articles in Russian - they are just superfluous. We use the Russian equivalents of your articles only as their exact forms: "this", "that", "my", "her", "their" for the cases where you use "the", just as we use "any", "some", etc. for the cases where you use "a"/"an".
