Oppenheimer : meh.
Saw Oppenheimer yesterday. Good, true and important story, good acting etc, but the sound mix is incredibly bad (worse than Tenent). Plus all the hype about how you must see this movie in IMAX to appreciate it is bullshit. Wait to see it on a streaming service and save your money.

From what I can tell, his psychotype is biorobot. Not human beeing.

I believed the hype. It was shot in Imax THIS, it used a new film format created by Kodak THAT, it was shot on analog film WHATEVER.... give me a fucking break.
I like most of Nolan's films but the guy has a screw loose somewhere. It is way too long (3 hours), It takes zero advantage of the Imax format (no sweeping vistas or other beautiful scenes), and the guy has a serious problem with sound mixing. Here's what I noticed: - The movie is way too fucking loud. I'm not talking about the A-bomb explosion. I'm talking about everything, even voices. - There is once scene where a couple are talking. They are outside, and you hear some wind blowing, some leaves on trees swishing around, and music. Every single one of these audio tracks were turned up to 10. It as if he didn't know that wind and leaves should be a subtle background sound, and music should be used to convey an emotion. It was all just BLLLLAARRRGGGHHHH... - There is another scene where people are stomping their feet in a small room. This sound is repeated several times during the movie. This was SO LOUD and SO BOOMY that it was louded than the Atomic Bomb explosion. Like, what the fuck? I knew it was going to be a bio-pic movie and alot of it is good, but the sound design was completely distracting and just plain bad. If you saw his last movie Tenent, you may know what I mean. Apperently Nolan does this on purpose as an artistic choice. Balls to that.

What is there to see? A generational slave owner posing as self made slave. Bullshit as usual.

Nolan has many, many fan boys who will praise his work no matter how bad they suck. Can't stand his movies, personally. |

Yeah, I saw that. I think I am the only person who hated the sound. Quote:
I like Florence Pugh but didn't find her hot in this movie. I think she looked sexy in Black Widow though. I mostly liked Interstellar as it is almost exactly my kind of movie (Sci-fi, Time Travel, Black Holes, Time Travel, 4D Tesseract, lots of science, etc), but the robots were so stupid they kept taking me out of the movie. I should have loved Tenet, but hated it. I love Inception though. Super well done. The Dark Knight is really good and one of my favourite movies of all time, The Prestige, is a Nolan flick.

I liked the movie.
The historical context was a bit missing, for 1949 |

probably this is related to the new 96khz audio engineering tools , it allows sound designers to push the limits of dynamics...like pushing very silent recordings very loud , lets say you record an ant walking on sand and bring it on the same level with a starting jet..before 96khz sound designers had to take care about dynamics and the relation between the loudest sound and the most sublte silent sounds......now because this is a kind of new toy in the arsenal of sound design, they are overdoing it and pushing everything up constantly. i noticed the same with other films currently

- How could Cooper not know where Nasa is? He's given coordinates and he goes there and is still confused as to where he is once he arrives. - When he leaves earth it's in a Saturn 5 (ish) rocket as you would expect. Yet their little ship can take off from planets on its own later without it. - The movie takes great steps to be as realistic as possible yet Cooper almost wrecks the mission by flying wrecklessly when landing on the water planet. - When they need to carefully navigate the wormhole Cooper gives control of the ship to TARS. Why not give it to the ship's auto-pilot instead? Even worse, the Robot TARS grabs a joystick to fly the ship. How dumb. Orbitting anything requires careful percision calculations. A machine, handling a joystick, is ... UGH.... - When Cooper asks Tars a question, Tars answers in goofy jokes instead of providing a direct answer. I know this is adjustable in its AI, but still. DUMB. - Why bother with the whole thing about changing history books to the point where kids no longer believe people were on the moon? It's a throw-away that is never mentioned again and seems to not affect the plot in any way. - Something explodes on Man's planet and burns with regular looking fire, yet there's not not enough oxygen to breathe, let alone allow anything to burn. /rant I did enjoy the Wormhole and Black hole scenes alot, and the trip through the Tesseract was extremely well done. The music was great, the FX were great, etc...

Hayley Atwell will embed herself into your brain and pants. All of the set pieces are excellent, but I particularly love the club scene. Enjoy!

It could be, but I saw MI-7 just days earlier and it sounded great. In fact it's my first choice for theatres and try to see as much as possible - this would be the first time that the sound was bad (Since Tenent, which I also saw in the theatre).
You could be right though. Even the voices seemed loud - so loud that I could swear I could hear the speakers distorting... I didn't know if I was imagining it, or if it was intentional..

on the plus side of the movie. I have been thinking about the movie alot. It does have me looking more into the real story.
What an odd bunch of characters. Freeman Dyson on Oppenheimer.
