As generative AI enters the mainstream, so, too, does AI-generated porn. And like its more respectable sibling, it’s improving.

When TechCrunch covered efforts to create AI porn generators nearly a year ago, the apps were nascent and relatively few and far between. And the results weren’t what anyone would call “good.”

The apps and the AI models underpinning them struggled to understand the nuances of anatomy, often generating physically bizarre subjects that wouldn’t be out of place in a Cronenberg film. People in the synthetic porn had extra limbs or a nipple where their nose should be, among other disconcerting, fleshy contortions.


Fast-forward to today, and a search for “AI porn generator” turns up dozens of results across the web — many of which are free to use. As for the images, while they aren’t perfect, some could well be mistaken for professional artwork.

And the ethical questions have only grown.

This is a killer niche. Think about it - describe your fantasy and AI will generate videos for you complete with photo-realistic actors and settings. Studios will be out of business.

It won’t be long before this can be generated in real time in 3D VR either, letting you walk around and interact with the characters who react back to you, and with you.

I predict that this is less than 2 years away.

AI is positively scary. In the near future we will not need models or actors. Or even writers.

You can have AI write you an entire script, and soon AI will be able to make full length feature movies. No need for Hollywood any more. Imagine you can even pick the movie - Say you want to take Khan from the Wrath Of Khan in Star Wars and make a new movie about him and his group of people. And instantly AI can make it happen.

The first person who can make porn like this will be a billionaire.

I've been playing around with Stable Diiffusion and some of the freely available AI models that you can download and run locally.

It's getting so good that it's almost unreal (well.. I mean real). There are models specifically designed for every body part and every thing you could do with that body part.

The difficulty right now is when you want a specific action or pose, it takes a lot of finesse and often fine touches with editing/in-painting various sections until it looks right.

Don't you just love the way Stable Diffusion sometimes adds an extra finger or arm or even an extra leg. It's an amazing technology but still has a long way to go before it becomes believable?

it will be interesting to see what "a considerable amount of time and development" means.

intuitively I think deepfakes and image/text generation is significantly less complicated than video generation. but it remains to be seen.
