Any Home Theatre nutters running an Anthem AVR 740 unit like me? Need some tech support

ARGHHH........ sigh.

I had a Denon mystery model for years that died on me (and killed a tweeter in the process) and I bought a new Anthem MRX 740 to replace it. It's fairly high end, seems to work fine etc, except that it is frustrating as fuck to you use. It is endlessly complicated.

Anyway here's where I am stuck:

All the channels sound fine except for the center channel, which sounds like it is EQ'ed wrong. The high frequency end sounds like it is too high, making voices sound really unrealistic, with not alot of mid-low end at all.

This is after doing the Automatic Room Correction (ARC) with the microphone and funky sounds...

There has to be a way to adjust the curve, but I cann't freaking find it. Not in the manual, not in forums, not in the ARC software and not when when connected to it via my laptop.

My Denon had a mode called "Cinema EQ" which basicaly rolled-off the high ends making movies sounds great by getting rid of the high-end "shrilly" sound, but the Anthem doesn't have that function. A simple tweak of the EQ would fix it but dammit I can't find it.

Any help is appreciated!

Last year I bought a Marantz. Literally just sold it this afternoon, for more than I bought it for.

We put probably 10 hours into it trying to get it to do what I wanted it to do. We eventually got about 90% there, but then I found that using it was such a pain in the butt that it never got used.

Love the idea of premium equipment, but you would think there would be a way to make it more accessible to the semi Pro user.

Best of luck. I can feel your frustration, I was there LOL.

Thanks for the feedback.

So far I am pretty pissed that while it has analog inputs, there are none for Phono, so I need to buy a pre-amp. There is no DSP, so I can't add effects to the sound for music such as "club" or "arena", which while purists would hate, but something I used often. It also has no FM tuner and now apperently, no manual adjustment of EQ settings.

I will give it one more shot tomorrow and if I can't get used to it I'll return it.

Not to sound daft, but doesnt the place you purchased it from, offer a 'setup for you' option?

I mean, its a semi high end item. I looked it up at my 'Dealer of Choice' in the UK ---RicherSounds.com --- & had I purchased one from there, they could have come round and set it up for me?

Just thinking perhaps if you do return it, find a place that offers a setup option, and repurchase it from them?

I mean, it IS specialised equipment - So why not have a specialist install it for you? Put your feet up, let them do all the tweaking and twerking, then just enjoy your new sound system?
