![]() I'll be finally updating my old intel i5 6600k in the new year sometime.
Who would you go with intel or amd? All of the benchmarks I'm seeing with the latest cpu's from amd and intel show that the intel cpu's are faster yet for some reason amd claims to be better.. Which is better AMD or Intel for gaming? Choosing an AMD processor will generally leave you with better game performance than Intel, especially at the high end, where AMD's 3D V-Cache processors rule. Truthfully, the gap between AMD and Intel is often small enough that it's difficult to notice—but AMD has the edge overall. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compar...4134vsm2081998 The AMD 7000X3D CPUs have the same core architecture as the rest of the 7000 series but they have one group of eight "3D" cores with extra cache. The “3D” cores are priced higher but run at 10% lower clocks. For most real-world tasks performance is comparable to the 7000X variant. Cache sensitive scenarios such as low res. canned game benchmarks with an RTX 4090 ($2,000) benefit at the cost of everything else. Be wary of sponsored reviews with cherry picked games that showcase the wins, ignore frame drops and gloss over the losses. Also watch out for AMD’s army of Neanderthal social media accounts on reddit, forums and youtube, they will be singing their own praises as usual. AMD continue to develop “Advanced Marketing” relationships with select youtubers with the obvious aim of compensating for second tier products with first tier marketing. |

Get one that supports virtualization. This way when you are not gaming, you can run additional operating systems such as linux as virtual machines inside Windows (or, run Proxmox and run Windows, Linux and others as VM's). It's a great way to up-skill and use it to host your own apps.

AMD cores are faster intel just gives you more cores for the same $$$ to compete , personally i prefer amd because they use less power so it can save you a few $$ a year.

I just upgraded my PC to AMD R7-someshit with 2TB NVME drives, it made quit a difference over the older i7 and Samsung SSD drives I had before.

I bought a couple hundred Ryzen 7950x’s for MojoHost servers. They’re amazing, faster than just about anything else anyone has ever rented.

For gaming check out the setups at PC Richard. CyberPower I think....for gaming AMD. For 'real work' Intel.
All depends on your budget tho. I don't usually go above $1000 for a new work station.

I tend to adopt that idea in alot of tech that I buy. I just bought a new AVR a couple of months ago and set a budget at $2000. I am shopping around for a new PC and already know that I want to spend about $2000. Same thing for a new TV: $2000. My reasoning is that yes I can buy something kick-ass for $4000 or $6000, but it will depreciate way too fast as new tech is always on the horizon, so, I guestimate that I will get the best VALUE for about $2000.
