Age verification for affiliates, what will work?

How do affiliates with limited resources do age verification?

What are the standards for an acceptable method?
Is having a form where the age is entered enough?

Are sponsors going to give us an API that will do if for us?

So far the replies have been very helpful.

There are services offering a fee for AVS but honestly, as a Sponsor, going State-by-State (or country-by-country) is fucked and crazy. So I am waiting for a Federal ruling if there ever is one.

Besides, if porn addicts want to jack it and their State blocks me I am assuming they are smart enough/desperate enough to use a VPN. After all, the Chinese have been jacking it for decades to online porn and look where they live.

I would have thought affiliates do not need age verification, you don´t need to provide this as you´re displaying images that are borrowed from a site, so you are showing images that if you google and click images, are seen on google.

the sites you promote need to be verified as legit or you would be promoting an non legitimate site and therefore promoting illegal sites

That isn't going to work. That only worked for proving that the people in the production were of age.

All of our freesites and trailers on paysites and X and Google images, etc. will be instantly illegal if age verification hits because they are accessible by under-age viewers.

But it does seem like the EU is on this as well, though maybe not as dramatic as some states that suggests ID check every 60 minutes.

If the US / UK situation however even applies to me as a EU citizen, blocking or implementing age verification is the question, since you have to pay the provider per verified user it depends on how much you expect to make. I've seen prices from $.50 to $1.50 per verified user.

Been trying to read up on all of this but I'm not much wiser than before.

No one should use age verification systems.

1. States or countries that believe that a website does not comply with local laws should block the websites via ISP and that's it, stop trying to extort webmasters with fines.

2. From the industry everyone should refuse to use stupid verification systems that are unviable & illogical. And support a verification system via device/OS. In the end it is the most logical, when someone sets up an android or an iphone they already need an apple or google account and to enter their age. The same with Windows. Any device configured by default by a minor should already have a parental control that does not allow them to access adult sites via rtba label, keywords or whatever. This should be the only parental control standard that would work and cause the least problems for users, and the most respectful of privacy laws, GDPR and other bullshit.

Anything other than this is not acceptable.

I totally agree.

But there is the dilemma when you're not a industry giant that could potentially afford to fight this in court, or just take the hit if getting sued.

There are likely many who is firmly with you in your arguments but that also looks towards taking steps to minimize the risk of getting a nasty bill over this.

As I understand the EU requires only some kind of age gate, not real verification.
So if you're hosting your business within the EU, that should be everything you need to fly legal?

Hopefully there will be more clarity regarding all of this soon, or at least someone to explain it to people like me using simple terms
