![]() A massive search and rescue effort was underway after an Army Black Hawk helicopter collided midair with an American Airlines jet at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia on Wednesday evening.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided in midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan National Airport (DCA) around 9 p.m. local time. PSA was operating as Flight 5342 for American Airlines, and it departed from Wichita, Kansas. According to American Airlines, there were 60 passengers and four crew members on board the CRJ-700 aircraft. “Several members” of U.S. Figure Skating were on the American Airlines flight that collided with a military helicopter near Reagan Washington National Airport late Wednesday, Fox News has learned. The flight came days after the U.S. Figure Skating Championships which were held in Wichita from Jan. 20 to Jan. 26. "U.S. Figure Skating can confirm that several members of our skating community were sadly aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a helicopter yesterday evening in Washington, D.C.” U.S. Figure Skating said in a statement. “These athletes, coaches, and family members were returning home from the National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.” |
