Network Fucking Solutions

You know, for a company that charges a fucking arm and a leg for domain registration should at least give you FREE domain forwarding... Shit, I pay 8.95 for a domain at GoDaddy and get FREE forwarding.

FUCK Network Solutions....

Actually too bad the only good thing with netsol was that they at one point were the only choice and it cost $70 for a domain. These days that would have weeded out 97% of all TGPs that are still around.

You can transfer them before close to expire. Do yourself a favor and go with directnic. They kick all ass. Maybe a little bit more than your budget at $15 a domain but well worth it.

Directnic rules for many reasons. One they are very easy to get a hold of. Two the service is top notch. 3 the guy that owns it is a class act. 4, many of the big guys have there domains there these days because they are trusted.

Cheapest may be good if you just want to host some free titty site. No slam on goDaddy as I never used them but I have yet since DirectNic started seen someone get fucked by them.

No shit. In 98 I had a domain with them that some how got all fucked up as far as name servers etc. Took about 87 hours on hold , 300 pages of faxes and 12 weeks to get that shit fixed.

I just got off the phone with GoDaddy support. My fault, I can't tell a MasterCard from a Visa. 9:00 PM and I was answered by a live person on the thrid ring. Tech had me taken care of and on my way in less than a minute - and he completed the transaction on his end. We use them for all of our domains and all but one of our clients have transferred to them.

Network Solutions kicks ass. It is nice actually OWNING your domain name. Read the GoDaddy contract. Better yet imagine this scenario (will be tough for some of you...)

You register a domain. Build a site. Get massive traffic, nearly 1 million uniques per day. Your making nearly $20,000 a DAY off the site. GoDaddy drops you, DNS doesn't click anymore. No reason, because they can do that. You can only get your domain transferred by threating with a lawsuit. All in all, takes a week. How much money did you lose? 140 large. Worth the extra $30? Fuck yes.

Fact: 10 out of 10 real webmasters prefer Network Solutions.

From my ebook:

"In the bad old days, one company ? Network Solutions ? had a monopoly on domain names. Don?t make the mistake of assuming that because they?re the biggest Network Solutions must be the best. Stay away.

"Network Solutions? price is not competitive ($35.00 for one year!), they are known for bad customer service, and administering or transferring a domain name can be very frustrating and complicated."

How quaint, an ebook... must be true.

Network Solutions has kickass customer service. You must not plan on being very successful if you only register a domain name for a year. $19.95 a year if you go with five years.

Yeah, they kicked my ass one time too many and I switched to Directnic.

Typical Network Solutions Scenario: you want to transfer a domain name, so you submit the form they give you. It spits back an auto response saying you're using an outdated version of the form (i.e., the one they gave you that day).

Or the perfect Catch-22: you can't order a domain transfer without a case number, but you can't get a case number until you order a transfer. Their actual setup, at least when I was still using them, was that you would have to order a transfer without a case number, get back an auto-response email saying your order was defective, then resubmit with the case number that was provided on the auto-response email.

Give me a break.

Never tried to e-mail them. When you want something from someone, you call. I have registered an ungodly number of sites with them, and they have always treated me well. I have only had one or two problems with them (both changing DNS issues) and it was resolved in minutes on the phone.

Everything you just said also applies to NetSol. They can do all of that. They do all of that.

I have never heard of it with them, but thats not to say it doesn't happen, I certainly don't know everything. I have many high traffic sties with them, and never had a problem.

I'd be interested to know if it had happened to you Dr. X?

It's an online world.

Directnic's online administrative utility just plain works. Network Solutions' doesn't work.

I never thought I'd get in an argument with someone about whether Network Solutions sucks ass. It's like arguing over whether the sky is blue.

Nobody of any importance makes deals online. It gives you some credibility when you can pick up a phone, whether it is negotiating a better price for sales or getting your money back. Nobody takes e-mails seriously, nobody takes any internet person seriously. You want to deal with someone, pick up a phone.

I don't want to get into a pissing contest about NetSol. They have always done right by me, I have tried GoDaddy and directNIC, whenever I needed something taken care of right away, they just couldn't deliver.

Transferring a domain name is not the equivalent of making a "deal." It is a routine administrative function and you should be able to handle it using an online administrative utility.

You might as well say "nobody of any importance buys anything online. If you want a copy of Adobe Acrobat go to a computer store and buy it."

That's funny.....

But so true. If domain names were cheaper back in the day I would have bought everything, including bikini.com.
