Htaccess help needed for members area - GoFuckYourself.com

I want to share members area access with another paysite but we're having some problems...

How can we share access to each others members area, since we both have different password files, without compromising security?

If you have two seperate password files you cannot simply give access to the other members.

You can merge the 2 files together on each server and use that list. Update the file like every 5-10 min and you should catch all members due to the fact that the new members probably check out your members section first before they surf over.

Perhaps you could try a IP / remote adress allow, where the click from a user on your partner site authenticates into your site based on that click coming from a trusted domain:

<Location /members>
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
Allow from 000.000.000.000
</Location>

dunno. just a thought.

Never worked for me but after several hours reading apache docs I did find a way around it. If you still have probs post your ICQ and I'll hit you up.

If the sites are both on the same box, can't you define in the htaccess to check more than one htpasswd file? I believe you can!

Scott, if you are on two different servers, it is difficult to do this. Gobigtime has code that will allow it by tossing password files between two servers. Costs way too much money, though.

I already have a script coded using mod_rewrite that allows sharing, used it for years with relative success. Worked great until ISP's started filtering out referring headers, had hahahahahahahahahaha messups, and had to unprotect multimedia files so they would stream.

Check this solution out. I am going to try this script out down the road. It is only $149, and does much more than allow the sharing of members areas.

Read that page closely. I have never seen something that seems that good.

If you can't afford that, then get a dedicated server with your buddy, and link to eachothers content through symbolic links, which works transparently and flawlessly.
