i code on a PC, but i generate galleries on a Mac. I do all of my design work on a Mac. every machine has its strengths.

Everything that dude talked about in the film doesn't apply to OS X. OS X is unix-based (i.e. more stable than windows). I have 4 machines in my home office. An old blue and white mac for file storage, a g4 dually for image processing, a pc for coding (and gaming), and my newest toy is a 12" powerbook for travelling, email and gfy.

one machine is never enough if you're serious about this biz...

I'd still take an old ass Mac running 8.0 then have to use a wintel box for everything.. but they are just tools, and every person uses tools differently and has his fave tool. Mine happens to be my dual gig G4, soon to be a dual 2gig G5. That said, I still have a P4 3 gighz to convert videos to different formats the rest of the world can watch.. sucks, but I had no choice

i would not say OSX is more stable then windows but its more secure cause the hackers dont looks for holes in the mac , because there is such a small user base.

I bet even Brad Shaw uses a Mac

You guys gonna jump on the first G5? I would wait till at least the 2nd or 3rd revision so they can iron out all the bugs. I made that mistake with the B&W G3 and my Ti powerbook, all had little problems that was fixed in the next revision.

i'm going to try to get one of those too. its the sweetest, fastest machine on the market!

As far as converting movies to different formats, try a Mac program called Cleaner. It'll take a movie and generate it into a ton of different formats. Lots of preferences too. You can probably find it at versiontracker...

The 1.6 and 1.8 GHz machines should be out this month. The 2 GHz will probably be next month.

yo, there was an article on wired.com about Mac cube's becoming collectors items and there is a huge independent "after market" in upgrades etc. sounded really cool.. they're upgrading the Cubes, which are like 3 years old, with better specs than what Apple are selling now

Got cleaner, still can't do MPEG stuff and WMV's properly. The only way to do it right is on a PC, no way around that thanks to microsft
