2 films in relatively the same genre that I liked better:

Scarface
Goodfellas

The Godfather (part 1) was a great film, but not the best IMO.

I just read the book again a few weeks ago. I have an old tattered paperback copy I break out every couple of years for a read. It is a fantastic book.

My girlfriend also got me an audiobook version of Omerta by Mario Puzo. It's read by Michael Imperioli. The Godfather is the better of the two stories but Omerta is still good.

Another great movie which most of you have probably never seen is Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa (Japanese, 1954). Francis Ford Coppola (Godfather) and George Lukas have always been a great fan of Kurosawa and have used many 'cliches' which Kurosawa basically invented.

A must see, even though it's hard to get, black and white and 3 hours long (the original version).

Edit: It's 8th on the imdb movies top 250 of al time, 'Shichinin no samurai' (should be #4 though since a lot less people have actually seen this one compared to Schindlers List).

Without a doubt somewhere in the Top 5. Its hard to say what film is truly the best of all time. The competition is fierce for that numero uno spot.

The Godfather is one of those classic films that you could watch over and over and never get tired of it. That is one of the things that makes a movie great to me.

The casting was flawless. Script was perfect. Direction was magnificent.

IT IS THE BEST! GF2 is the 2nd greatest film... GF3 would have been good but Francis had to put his ugly ass daughter in it to fuck it up.

It was a great novel before it was a great movie.

A way better read, if you havent read any Puzo, now would be a good time to start.
