A husband and wife team of convicted sex attackers who skipped out on their parole have been nabbed by Calgary cops.

In yesterday's Calgary Sun, police asked for the public's help in locating 34-year-old Brenda Debakker and 40-year-old Bruce Rutherford.

They had been seen in Calgary on Sunday and were both wanted on Canada-wide warrants for being unlawfully at large.

A member of the public called police around 2 p.m. yesterday saying Debakker was staying at the Town & Country Motor Hotel.

"At around 2:40 p.m. we found her in a room there," said Insp. Keith Pollock, adding the couple's white Buick LeSabre was also located in the hotel parking lot.

"It was sold to an unsuspecting guy about an hour before."

After taking Debakker into custody, police units circulated the area for Rutherford.

At one point, officers stopped to pick up a copy of the Sun -- which ran mugshots of the couple -- to help them identify the escaped parolee.

Police spotted Rutherford at 3:45 p.m. at a bus shelter near 17 Ave. and 38 St. S.E.

He was arrested without incident, as was Debakker.

The pair both pleaded guilty in June, 2001 to a charge of aggravated sexual assault after a prostitute was picked up while working the Victoria Park stroll.

The prostitute was taken to an apartment at 4944 Dalton Dr. N.W. and led to unit 1001, where she was told to strip before being sexually assaulted by both Debakker and Rutherford.

The naked mother of four was dragged into the master bedroom by her hair and was punched and kicked.

She was then tied by her hands and feet to a wooden, four-poster bed.

The woman was made to have sex with both Debakker and Rutherford, and at times was bound by her neck and at others made to act like a dog.

She later managed to escape and sought help from neighbours.

The couple were sentenced to three years in prison and were on parole when they went on the lam.

Rutherford failed to check into the halfway house where he was required to live and after Debakker didn't show up for work Monday, a series of events led police to believe the pair hooked up again.

Both have been charged with being unlawfully at large and Rutherford faces an additional charge of possession of cocaine.
