Interesting Stats - 1 Mil Members and Climbing

LiveJournal.com is one of the largest "blogs" online. With over 1.2 Million members now. Interesting stats and demographics to analyze. Looks like 5% (over 63,000) users converting to their $2 / month premium deal. Clever marketing if you don't get invited in by an existing member you can join by paying the $25 annual fee to be able to post. It's interesting to note the 2 to 1 female to male ratio. Also 10% of members are age 13 to 18.

What i think is interesting in those figures is the age distribution figures.

from that picture you can clearly see that journals, blogs whatever you wanna call them seem to attract the 17-20 year olds yet, when they get to 21 the numbers seem to decline.

what happens to these users when they hit 21 is it due to the fact they have discovered the opposite sex or could it be due to something else?

perhaps the blog/journal market is only a good place to market stuff if you are targeting the younger generation.

Yeh, I found that interesting also. And legally you can't even do a binding agreement with someone under 18 without someone over 18 present and signing also.

I dont think so. The blog idea mostly appeals to teens I would think who want others to listen to them complain / views on life. I know several people who have live/dead/freeopen journals and most of them are fucked up people who want others to make them feel better.

KRL,

another good point, i wonder how these types of sites handle the COPA registrations etc as required by law for users under 18 (is it 18 nowadays?)

Someone always comes up with the clever "anti-matter" version for the psycho crowd.

I don't know what type of content is being posted, but I imagine there's quite a bit of sexual talk since that's what most young people have problems with.

Surprised they even let people that young become members.

If the Dead Journal stats are real, it looks like they get some pretty damn good traffic for being a spoof site.

Most of the straight cammies use it and (at least) used to have pretty large followings. It was easier than using scripts on their own sites. They could sell the bark right off a tree.
